In 2022, and I decided to make ornaments for everyone. We did not get to share them at the time, but a week before Christmas this year seems a good time to post them ☃️😊.

Some are painted and resin, some are wood burned pyrography, all individually made.

I placed in another Fine Art America contest!

I came in 2nd (technically tied for first) in a contest for Classical Aesthetics with my painting, ‘Two Onions’ (gouache on watercolor paper).

‘Lydia Deetz’ - 6x4 gouache on watercolor paper. This is the scene where Winona Ryder’s teenaged goth character in the 1988 film, ‘Beetlejuice’, is peeking through the attic door, and finds herself bathed in an eerie light.

This started out as a very, fast, rough acrylic demo painting for very quick and basic painting session I taught, but I felt it needed polish and refinement before I could call it complete.

I used gouache to repaint the entire surface, since it allows for greater control and dries quickly, and overall am much happier with the end result.

‘Braver, Stronger, Smarter,’ gouache on 8x10 wood-panel.

This was painted as a gift, but I’m afraid it took a long time to complete with the hand lettering and I was fighting with acrylics to get them to act like gouache. I’ve always loved the original designs for those in the 100 Acre Wood, wanted to share the sentiment with someone who liked the quote.

My husband was going through some files and found some of my old high school art and even some originals from college I thought were destroyed. He’s taken the time to preserve and scan them so I can have copies saved.

I’ve been a Star Trek fan since childhood, and in the summer before my sophomore year of high school was trying to learn to do pastel portraits, so I drew movie and TV characters for practice. I think for early work, they could be worse 😅.

Winter Barn, 4.25x2.5, watercolor with gouache on watercolor paper.

This is a re-upload of my first mini watercolor painting. I wanted to go back and see if using gouache made it possible to add a bit more detail to this and perhaps a few other paintings, especially since this was my first foray back into regularly painting. The fact that gouache is like a super pigmented watercolor makes this seem to work pretty well.

I’m happy enough with it now that it has been matted and framed to get onto our Etsy shop, along with a new upload to Fine Art America for custom prints.

Amber Waves - 4.25x2.25 Watercolor and gouache on watercolor paper.

I had to set this one aside for a while, as I could not get the watercolors to quite do what I wanted, but once I was able to try gouache, it seemed to cooperate more.

I was gifted a bouquet of tulips and a substantial amount of gouache paint for my birthday, and it seemed appropriate that the flowers be the first subject for my new paint.

Pancakes - 4x4 Gouache on wood.

This was a fun subject from the hosted by .art , and I really like how gouache paint works like watercolor and oils got married 😅. It worked well on the wood coaster, and is the third in my “breakfast food coastcard” series, which includes ‘Toast’ and ‘Jam’.

Looking forward to more challenges and works with this medium, and have already started the fourth in this morning meal set.

I tied in second and third place in a Fine Art America painting challenge!

Crocuses in Snow tied with many excellent pieces for second place, and Seaspray Lighthouse was tied in third with several works. I’m just pretty excited to have made the leaderboard 🤣
