17/06/2024

As a company whose mission is strengthening the arts economy, we prioritize community because we learn and grow from it. We feel grateful to our communities for aiding our growth, and we continue our work to give back and keep the cycle going. While we celebrate those we share a scene with, we can’t help but think of the atrocities and horrors that are happening in different corners of the globe, tearing people apart from their loved ones and the land they inhabit.

Holding all of this grief, desire, joy, and anger while we chip away at making a living for ourselves and others feels impossible at times. Times like this is when we turn to members of the community and witness the ways they give back and work towards a collective goal of betterment. As members of the Pittsburgh arts community, we’re privileged to work with incredible hearts and minds. We’d like to take a moment to spotlight these standout artists in a series of upcoming posts, placing energy into the liberation of people and an end to the injustices.

With members working from the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, justseeds operates both as a unified collaboration of similarly minded printmakers and as a loose collection of creative individuals with unique viewpoints and working methods. Justseeds believes in the transformative power of personal expression in concert with collective action. To this end, they produce collective portfolios, contribute graphics to grassroots struggles for justice, work collaboratively both in- and outside the co-op, build large sculptural installations in galleries, and wheatpaste on the streets—all while offering daily support as allies and friends. We’re honored to have collaborated together previously. Justseeds has created free, downloadable graphics packages for those who are seeking visuals for their part in the movement.

Staff spotlight!

This week, we’re excited to re-introduce you to Casey Droege, Founder and Executive Director of CDCP and The Art Supply Co.

Meet our Executive Director Casey Droege. Droege (She / They) is an artist and cultural producer with a practice that’s hard to pin down. It floats between organizing and object making, while incorporating entrepreneurialism (because it’s useless if you can’t eat). Her work has been written about in the The New York Times, ARTnews, Temporary Art Review, ARTSY, and most Pittsburgh publications.
