This incredible peice was made by Mark Birchard:

It’s truly a privilege to be able to be a part of this wonderful program, and the historical preservation of a true Texas icon. The center core is 15 and 20 with ship steel on the outer layers. I called this knife the Tiger Shark because the pattern made me think of a tiger stripe pattern. The presentation box was a happy accident that we found on one of our shopping trips. That it had a map of the world across the top with all the oceans that the USS Texas spend its life sailing across. The handle material is deck wood from the ship that is stabilized. Through the process of burnishing, sanding, and then oil sealing made the handle look like it was actually used and carried. I’m excited to be a part of this program, and thank you very much for blessing us, and allowing us to be part of such a wonderful program

For this one Stanton Jones went with a San Mai construction forge welding two layers of ship steel with a core of 80Crv2.. The blade profile and bevels were ground in and the keyhole for handle machined. Then the painstaking process of cutting and fitting the wood to match the keyhole relief in the metal. This was nothing more than tedious scraping away wood and checking for fit, rinse lather and repeat. He actually went through several blocks due to chipping and breaking of little pieces. The handle is actually two pieces each fit from either side then held together with epoxy and hidden pins. This way the original deck finish could be visible on both sides. The curved pommel and nut are both made from ship steel and the brass wedge is from the ship. All the steel is hand sanded finish with an acid etch to bring out the character in the hull steel.

This charcuterie board by Will Salt with Salt Shaker Woodworks tells a story!
The main body is made from Texas Red Oak and has been put together in a herringbone pattern to represent ocean waves. The tapered border shows the direction of motion through the waves.
The USS Texas inlay is made from deck wood of the USS Texas itself. The shape may look unfamiliar but it is the outline of the hull below the main deck. This is an exact duplicate, in miniature, of the hull taken from an actual architectural drawing of the ship. There were voids in the deck wood from bolt locations and rot that had to be filled. This was done with a custom-colored epoxy.
The USS Texas served in WWI and WWII. The challenge coin made in her honor reflects this. The WWI side of the coin is aft of the stern showing that her service there is behind her. The WWII side of the coin is just aft of the bow because her service there is also behind her, but not as distant.
The official Texas State Seal is directly off her bow as she is heading home to Texas.
