Acrylic and Oil Landscape Paintings

I prefer painting outside from May until October when my favorite subjects come to life with light. While working outdoors I paint with water soluble oils on canvas or wood panels. In the rainy season my studio work focuses on larger, more detailed acrylic paintings, utilizing my landscape photo references.

In both instances my goal is to create a depiction of the first “spark” of inspiration I felt upon initial contact with the subject. My painting style fuses traditional techniques steeped in design and a dynamic passion for interpreting nature’s color palette, structural forms and human effects. A few of my artistic influences include Italian Renaissance painters, Dutch Masters, Andrew Wyeth and my father who taught me technical drawing skills at an early age.
