Tansy is blooming everywhere. So it's time to enjoy the beautiful colours that can be coaxed out of the flowers. Sunshine and shadows leaking out onto the cloth. Nothing like the natural colours born out of the earth to bring joy to the heart.

These beautiful natural cottons love to bathe in indigo dye vats. In ancient times this was the norm. The blue making leaves that I used to dye these garments were harvested and processed on a Indian rural farm. After hours of preparing the cloth, manipulating the fabric, multiple dips and rinses in the indigo vat, the leaves finally revealed their beautiful blue colour onto the cloth. A gift from the earth. A humbling experience.

It doesn't really matter what venue we use to seek peace and harmony. The wonders of earth's pigments on a humble piece of fibre. We could all use a little magic right now.

Sometimes its the small things that warm the heart and mind. Now more than ever during these difficult times. Natures gift.... my banana indigo vat that has dyed both the quail eggs and cloth samples beautiful shades of blue. Who would guess that leaves, bananas , and TLC can make beautiful shades of blue?

Itajime, rust, indigo with machine and hand stitching. Cloud inversion for days now but creating with all natural dyes on a modest piece of thrift shop napkin was happily meditative.

Earth Felt like sunshine. Silk, wool, natural dyes, and iron oxides ie rust. There is light in all things.. when I listen to my inner voice instead of my cluttered mind the light creeps in ever so softly.

Silk and wool snuggling up to iron oxides to make a silk scarf. It feels good that all materials are natural and honour the journey of healing and growth.

Can't beat the true colours of nature. Iron oxides, tannins and indigo coaxed from leaf and metallic salts of the earth keep Fall colours from hiding under the snow. They are still there if you talk nice to them.

Really enjoying the Maiwa courses I've taken over time. Natural fibres are so beautiful when treated with respect. Just a few fibre samples using indigo, mordants, tannins and rust on cottons and silks. Magic is what happens when these are thrown together to do their nature dance.
