Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation Welcome to the wonder of the Agua Hedionda Lagoon. This 400-acre lagoon is home to a wide array of flora and fauna. Come for a visit! Become a member!

The Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation operates the Discovery Campus (DC). The DC is an extraordinary collection of hands-on exhibits, gardens, and live animal ambassadors allowing visitors to “taste nature.” We are open to the public, but we primarily serve families with school-aged children who care about the environment, the watershed, and the local community, and we are stroller friendly. These families come to Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation for active ways to involve their kids in fun, hands-on, educational experiences that give them a sense of accomplishment. Most guests spend between half an hour to two hours exploring our offerings. We have a suggested $15 donation per group; members are complimentary.

What a Day of Service! 🌿

For Climate Action Week, volunteers joined us at the Agua Hedionda Discovery Campus to clear out invasive plants and overgrown vegetation, then put 103 California native plants in the ground.

Many of the new plants are pollinator friendly, and once established, California natives need little watering beyond normal rainfall. That means a native garden built for our climate and for local bees and butterflies.

Thank you to Frontwave Arena for funding this project and to Clean Energy Alliance for co-hosting. And to every volunteer who showed up in the extreme heat: you made this happen. 💙

The Haunted Corn Maze is open, and Agua is behind the scares! 👻🌽 Fridays and Saturdays in October, 7pm to 10pm, at the Carlsbad Strawberry Company. Tickets are $25 per person, sold nightly at the maze ticket stand. A portion of every ticket supports environmental education at the Agua Hedionda Lagoon. Get scared for a good cause!

We got fooled! 🐝➡️🪰

We originally ID’d this visitor as a California carpenter bee, but it turns out we were looking at a Mexican cactus fly (Copestylum mexicanum)—a syrphid fly and an impressive carpenter bee mimic!

We love when a good mimic fools the humans, too. 👻 Nature has plenty of tricks up its sleeve, just in time for spooky season.

This fly was spotted during one of our bird walks, just one example of the environmental education programs supported by proceeds from the Haunted Corn Maze. 🌽

🎃 Opening night is just 3 days away! Come get spooked while supporting environmental education at the Lagoon.
