Norfolk Fire Museum grew out of the old Norfolk Fire Service Historical and Preservation Society and still has very close links with Norfolk Fire & Rescue Service. It is though, a charity and all work is carried out by volunteers. The basis of the collection at present is Local Authority Fire Brigades. This is now being extended to celebrate all fire fighting in Norfolk and we would appreciate rec
eiving any artifacts or information relating to RAF, MOD or Works Fire Brigades that operated in Norfolk. We have now obtained a lease on a unit in Market Gates Shopping Centre in Gt Yarmouth and are busy setting up displays with a view to opening early in 2021.

Museum volunteers were out over the weekend at the Strumpshaw Steam Rally. Several thousand people visited the show over the the 3 days with our display and car fire being as popular. We will continue to post events where we will be attending including our own fire engine rally in July at Bressingham. Join us will be Marshall from Paw Patrol and Pontypandy's very own hero next door, Fireman Sam

Last night (25/5/2023) Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service held an exercise at Wi******er Tower in Norwich to test their crews in response to a high rise incident. One of the appliances attending was the aerial ladder platform from Earlham. A bit of a contrast from the museum turntable ladder seen parked in almost the same location 44 years ago.
Please remember to ensure you have a working smoke alarm and keep your escape routes clear.
Yesterday we made the long journey down to Swindon to pick up another addition to the collection with our friends Bressingham Steam & Gardens. We will be at STRUMPSHAW STEAM RALLY this weekend, come see it ;)

Today we took the Green Goddess to Harvey’s of Bunwell for a brake test and it passed with flying colours.
When you have a Salvage Tender you don’t expect it’s first call to be you own shed.
We moved this fire engine in the museum on Saturday. It was built in 1775 so is the oldest exhibit there.
Due to holidays the museum will not be open Wednesday this week but will reopen next Saturday.
Our website has now been updated with events we are hoping to attend this season (subject to volunteer availability). Please pop by and say hello to the team if you are at any. More events will be added as and when we are booked in.

Fire engine rally at Duxford in 1987. Some of our members attended this, and other large rallies that followed, with appliances that we still have in the collection including an aerial appliance which was used to take this image. Wonder how many of those appliances pictured are still around?

Today marks the 75th anniversary of local authorities taking control of the fire service following the disestablishment of the National Fire Service. This saw for the first time the establishment of a county fire service although The City of Norwich and Brough of Great Yarmouth remained those fire brigades still being operated. This saw Norfolk being covered by three fire brigades which remained in place until 1974.

* Resilience Volunteers Needed *
Following on from last summer and working closely with Norfolk Fire & Rescue Service during the heatwave and wild fires of 2022 we have realised how useful some of our own equipment could be to the wider community in general. With the threat of global warming and ever changing weather patterns the museum have been working with Special Access Disaster Response UK and Norfolk Fire & Rescue on a resilience support plan. Here are a few photos from a fantastic meeting with Norfolk Fire and rescue at Long Stratton fire station showing a display of some of the equipment we hold. We are now looking for community resilience support volunteers to help out in times of need. If this is something you might like to get involved in or would like more details then please contact us.

Sneak preview of the team setting up with our great friends Bressingham Steam & Gardens at the Royal Norfolk Show. We are sharing stand 270, come say hello! The car fire will be there along with our new fire engine colouring book!
Over the passed few weeks we have been supporting Bressingham Steam and Gardens when we can with the car fire using the on site appliance L168 RVG and have raised some funds which we help to keep us going. This last weekend they invited us down for they last event of the year Halloween which turned out wet and very windy. The weather was not good and the bottom field was very wet which was bad news as our members caravan was stuck in the mud and gave us a excuse to record the first call for L168 RVG a special service by arrangement. If you are interested in getting stuck in the mud or helping in any other way please PM us.
