Our families moved to Fort Myers years ago for the sun & water. We actually never planned to stay and even moved to Charleston for a few years. Then we realized being with family was more important than all and here we are.

1. I-75 at 5pm is not the fast way, no matter what your GPS says.
2. There is so much more history to Ft. Myers than the Edison Ford Estate.
3. Caloosahatchee Preserve East Trail is free (and dog friendly), and most people never think to go.
4. Farmer’s Markets shows up around October, and locals sell out the German bakery truck every weekend.
5. Order the Shrimp Fettuccine at Blossom & Brie. Every single time.
6. Say yes to the first three invitations you get. That’s how you meet people here.

It’s almost October and you know what that means? Farmer’s Markets are about to be back.

Every fall we get the same question from people moving to Fort Myers. Once the weather becomes so beautiful, what is actually worth doing out here?

Start with Coconut Point. Go early, get the Elvis Parsley juice from Juice Society, and give yourself a full hour because you are going to want it. This farmer’s market has a TON of vendors.

Then head to Sanibel Island - our personal favorite Farmer’s Market of all time. Better yet, you can hit some of the most beautiful and serene beaches before or after (just bring a cooler because you’ll buy more than you think).

The other three are worth your weekends too, especially if you are new to Fort Myers and still figuring out which direction to head on a weekend.

Think you need a waterfront home to own a boat in Fort Myers? You don’t!

1️⃣ Wet Slip
You can purchase or rent a wet slip in one of the endless marinas in our area. This makes a lot of sense for larger boats that some canals just can’t accommodate easily.

2️⃣ Dry Storage
Perfect if you want someone else to take care of it all. Make a phone call or use an app to let the facility know you’re coming. The dry storage facility will get your boat in the water, prep it, and make sure it’s ready to go for you. Best of all, they’ll clean it all up and put it back into storage when you’re done with a day out on the water.

3️⃣ Boat & RV Storage Communities
Think neighborhoods like Horse Creek, where many residents have full size boat & RV outbuildings right next to their homes.

4️⃣ Community Marinas
We have plenty of communities in Ft. Myers and Southwest Florida where the homes may not have private docks in the backyard, but the neighborhood has beautiful marinas for residents.
