Registration is now open for Berlinustration, a 6-day immersive illustration workshop with award-winning illustrator and designer Steven Guarnaccia. The workshop is for dedicated students as well as for professionals who would like to further develop and hone their visual storytelling skills. The workshop is ideal for artists interested in making picture books for children and adults, short-form v
isual narratives and comics. The workshop will be presented in English, though individual feedback can be given in Spanish and Italian, as well. The workshop will take place from July 14-19, 2014 at Spazio Corsivo, a design studio and bookshop in centrally located Prenzlauer Berg, one of Berlin’s most vibrant neighborhoods. The workshop will also include studio visits and critiques with some of the most vital and interesting visual artists working in Berlin. At the end of the week, there will be an exhibition at Spazio Corsivo of work created in the workshop. The cost of the workshop is $ 500 (approximately E 370). This fee does not include travel, food or lodging. Berlin is a very affordable city, and we can recommend inexpensive lodging close to the workshop site. In addition, a number of restaurants in the neighborhood have agreed to offer special prices to workshop participants. Space is limited, so it’s recommended that you register soon. The deadline for registration is May 1, and must be secured with a 25% deposit, refundable up to 30 days before the start of the workshop. Steven Guarnaccia is an internationally recognized illustrator and designer. He is the former Op-Ed art director of the New York Times and director of the Illustration program at Parsons The New School for Design in New York City. He has lectured on, and led workshops in illustration and visual thinking internationally. In addition to creating award-winning illustrations for major publications around the world, including the New York Times, the New Yorker, Domus and Abitare, and writing and illustrating numerous books for children and adults, Steven has designed greeting cards for the Museum of Modern Art, murals for Disney’s cruise ships and watches for Swatch. His books on design for children, Goldilocks and the Three Bears: A Tale Moderne, The Three Pigs: An Architectural Tale and Cinderella: A Fashionable Tale, have been critically acclaimed and have won awards from the Bologna Children’s Book Fair.
