September 15th marks the 250th anniversary of the arrival of the ship Hector to Pictou, Nova Scotia. The Hector is recognized as being the first ship to bring emigrants directly from Scotland to Nova Scotia. These first 189 Scottish settlers were the first of many who would eventually call the province home.

Fishermen and locals on the wharf in Louisbourg. Guessing from the 1930s. There were days back then when more than 400 sword fish were brought to Lewis & Co. for processing in the summer months. Names include Joe Parsons, Dan Joe Thomas, Anias King, Jack Poole, Sam King, Joe Fiander, Jack Troke, Freeman MacKenzie, Albert Bate. Possibly Billy Jewell.

I had 2 Uncles that were on the famous SCG Lady Laurier during the 50s.
The Captain was Charles Shaw (Bullock) and the first mate was Samuel MacDonald. they were half brothers and both from Louisbourg. Uncle Charlie went on to Captain RCN Destroyers for their sea trails.
Uncle Sam passed his Captains papers but died soon after of a heart attack.
