The Artists of the Scenic Rim:
Kylie Dallas | Potter

From her light-filled home studio on Tamborine Mountain, Kylie Dallas brings her love of ceramics, colour, and sustainable living into beautiful, functional pieces of art. A ceramicist and mosaicist, Kylie’s practice centres on hand-built clay works that celebrate organic imperfection. Her pieces, from vases and mugs to mirrors and mosaic tiles, are not only unique, but often inspired by the practical needs of her own home. “I really love beautiful surroundings,” she says. “But I don’t really like consumerism… so being able to create my own ceramics means I can have those things with a very low environmental impact.”

Kylie’s creative journey began in childhood, sculpting oven-baked clay earrings for friends. After a long hiatus raising a family and running a successful fruit and veg box business on the mountain, a single hand-building class five years ago reignited her passion. “I became completely obsessed with it,” she laughs. “Once I told my friends what I was up to, they all asked me to teach them.” What started as a few casual classes among friends quickly bloomed into Wild Lime Studio.

Her pieces often incorporate salvaged materials, cracked pottery, repurposed trays, vintage mirrors and feature vibrant glazes inspired by the lush gardens and foliage of the mountain she’s called home for over 24 years. “All of my mosaic pieces are made from recycled elements,” she explains. “It offsets ceramic waste, is environmentally sound, and totally eco-friendly.”

Kylie’s love of the medium runs deep. Whether she’s teaching or experimenting with new glaze combinations herself, there’s one mantra her students will always hear: “Perfection is in the imperfection.”

The Artists of the Scenic Rim:
Julien Parrot | Photographer

For nature photographer Julien Parrot, photography is more than capturing images, it’s a deep expression of reverence for the natural world. Now based in Tamborine Mountain, Julien’s journey began with a backpacking trip to Australia in 2011, a camera in hand and a desire to document the wild beauty around him. Over time, his lens evolved alongside his love of hiking, moving from casual snapshots to carefully composed reflections of nature’s quiet poetry. “It started more with a love of exploring and looking at nature that brought me to take some photos. Now when I am with my camera I have the feeling I am having a conversation with nature.”

Specialising in authentic landscape and wildlife photography, Julien’s work resists over-editing, aiming instead to preserve the purity of the moment. Whether it’s towering forests, fog‑shrouded trails, or the whimsical glow of fireflies, he captures both what he sees and what he feels. His creative process is largely reactive, letting light, weather, and chance guide him, though he patiently revisits promising scenes until conditions align. “It’s personal fulfillment… creating something that can be a piece of nature that stays, even as everything is moving so quickly.”

Currently, Julien is channeling years of work into his first photo book, a limited‑edition love letter to the Scenic Rim region. The project is being crowdfunded to support a small print run, and you can help bring this beautiful project to life, visit his crowdfunding campaign at pozible.com/profile/julien-parrot

He also recently earned a finalist spot in the Australian Geographic Photo Competition, a well-deserved recognition of his understated brilliance.

It’s been a little while since our last update, but that’s only because we’ve been working quietly but purposefully behind the scenes.

Our commitment to creating a vibrant, community-first arts precinct for Tamborine Mountain has never been stronger. While great things take time, we’re making steady progress and are energised by the support we continue to receive.

In the months ahead, we look forward to spotlighting the incredible creative talent across the Scenic Rim. While we can’t reveal too much just yet, there are developments unfolding, and we’re eager to share more as soon as we can.

Thank you for standing with us, believing in this vision, and being part of the journey.

The Artists of Tamborine Mountain:
Shannon Willis | Painter

Shannon Willis, a portrait artist with a penchant for expressive and evocative creations, approaches her craft with an experimental mindset and a deep connection to her medium. Working primarily with oil paints on timber, Shannon’s unique technique emerged from an unexpected moment of experimentation, leading to a signature style that balances the fluidity of watercolour with the richness of oils. Her work captures the human face with a delicate interplay of texture and light, revealing an emotional depth that feels both personal and universal. Her creative process, though deeply rooted in structure and classical anatomy, maintains a refreshing openness to discovery and imperfection.

Having initially explored art as an elective during her Bachelor of Education, Shannon found herself drawn into its transformative power, both for herself and the children she taught. This passion evolved into a full-time endeavour, now based at Follow Your Art, her creative studio nestled in Tamborine Mountain. At Follow Your Art, Shannon offers art classes for primary school-aged children from Prep to Year 6, providing them with a calm, nurturing environment to explore their creativity and build confidence. Her dedication to fostering young talent recently saw her students participate in the Tamborine Mountain Artisan Fayre Junior Art Competition, where Nova Moreno and Ellie Muggleton won first and second prizes for their sculptures, a testament to her impact as a mentor and teacher.

Inspired by artists like Lucian Freud and Amy Dury, Shannon continues to explore new techniques and subjects, with a vision to expand her work into figurative studies. Possessing a drive to continually improve, she embraces the challenges of the artistic process, viewing every piece as a reflection of her growth and valuable to her evolution as a painter.

Shannon is currently building her portfolio towards a future local exhibition and her work and information on her art classes can be found on her website followyourart.com.au. You can also view her students’ art projects on Instagram at and Facebook at Follow Your Art Studio.

The Artists of Tamborine Mountain:
Olivia Mills | Painter/Tattooist

Olivia Mills is a multifaceted artist and tattooist whose work spans from hyper-realistic drawings to vibrant, pop-art-inspired paintings. With a deep passion for portraiture, Olivia’s artistic journey has been shaped by her admiration for iconic figures, including musicians, actors, and cultural trailblazers. Her paintings, often rooted in realism, have evolved to embrace a more abstract and expressive style, showcasing her dynamic approach to art. Olivia’s studio, Studio Mink, is both a gallery and tattoo studio located on Gallery Walk, Tamborine Mountain. Adorned with her creations, each piece reflects her dedication to capturing the essence of her subjects in a bold and captivating way.

Initially drawn to art during her school years, Olivia’s path to professional artistry took a surprising turn when she ventured into tattooing. Over the past decade, she has honed her skills in this precise medium, transforming her artistic vision into wearable masterpieces. Although tattooing brought structure and discipline to her craft, Olivia remains deeply connected to the freedom and flow she experiences when painting. Balancing these art forms has allowed her to explore different facets of her creativity, resulting in a unique style that resonates with her audience.

Currently, Olivia is channelling her energy into creating large-scale portrait paintings featuring iconic musicians. These works are part of her ambition to hold an exhibition at The Knoll Studio, a space she feels perfectly complements her expressive pieces. With a new website in development and plans to showcase her art at upcoming events, Olivia is determined to expand her reach and establish herself as a prominent figure in the art world.

The Artists of Tamborine Mountain:
Ben Mirco | Painter

Ben is a self-taught artist who began his creative journey in Melbourne during the COVID-19 lockdowns. Immersing himself in oil painting, he honed his skills by watching YouTube tutorials and experimenting with different techniques. His vibrant Australian landscapes and seascapes are characterised by saturated colours that bring nature to life. Since moving to the mountain, Ben has expanded into various mediums, including pastels, which allow him to explore a more impressionistic, soft, and dreamlike style. Now, Ben channels his passion for art into teaching, offering community-based classes for participants from diverse backgrounds, including those engaged in his support work. His goal is to create a safe, encouraging space where people can freely express themselves, regardless of their prior experience or skill level. For Ben, combining support work with his love of teaching art was a natural progression, as both endeavours focus on helping individuals build confidence, interact with others, and embrace who they are.

The process of creating art is not just about mastering techniques, but about fostering confidence and relaxation. Many of his students find that art offers a way to express themselves, connect with others, and build a sense of community. Ben’s vision is to continue growing his classes, creating a space where people can come together regularly to paint, have fun, and build lasting connections.

To check out more of Ben’s amazing work and classes, you can find him on Instagram: and .mirco.supportive.creation on Facebook.

The Artists of Tamborine Mountain:
Jallo | Painter and Digital Artist

Jallo is a visionary artist whose work is marked by a captivating blend of intricacy, design, and an unmistakable sense of enchantment. With an eye for the ornate and a deep appreciation for detail, she crafts compositions that feel both cohesive and otherworldly. Jallo’s distinctive style has emerged over years of honing her skills, gradually learning how to weave together the elements that captivate her most. Since childhood, she has been drawn to depicting subjects that have a fantastical, dreamlike quality—a theme that remains central in her art today.

Deeply influenced by the likes of Edmund Dulac and Japanese illustrator Toshiaki Kato, Jallo's art features a similar 2D illustrative, decorative approach with an ethereal twist. She is also fascinated by Impressionism and abstract art, aspiring to experiment more in these areas and even fuse them into her current style.

Jallo’s creative process is meticulous, often beginning with detailed planning. Yet, she’s open to the spontaneous detours that occasionally arise, viewing them as opportunities for unexpected improvements.

For Jallo, art is a place of pure joy and creative freedom, a space where she can immerse herself for hours, losing all sense of time. She believes art doesn’t need to carry deep meanings or provoke strong emotions; its appeal can be found simply in its beauty.

To explore Jallo's enchanting creations and stay updated on her journey, follow her on Instagram at or visit her website at www.jalloart.com (currently under construction).
