✨ What's New at The Farm? ✨
Exploring The Farm just got a little easier! We've recently installed new outdoor interpretive signs throughout the property, allowing visitors to enjoy a self-guided experience at their own pace. These signs share the stories of the people, places, and history that make The Farm such a special part of our community. Whether you're stopping by outside of our regularly scheduled tour times or looking for a quick way to learn more during your visit, these new signs help make our museum more accessible and welcoming to everyone. We invite you to take a stroll around the grounds, discover something new, and connect with the rich history of The Farm. Let us know what you think of the new additions!

✨ A New Treasure is on Display at The Farm ✨

We're delighted to feature a remarkable Paul Poiret dress from the 1920s, now on exhibit at The Farm.

Often called the "King of Fashion," Paul Poiret transformed women's style in the early 20th century by introducing elegant, flowing silhouettes that moved away from the restrictive corseted fashions of previous decades. His innovative designs helped pave the way for modern fashion and captured the spirit of a new era.

This beautiful dress is more than a garment—it's a piece of history that reflects the artistry, craftsmanship, and changing culture of the Roaring Twenties.

Be sure to stop by and see this remarkable artifact in person during your next visit. Every piece in our collection has a story to tell—and this one is truly timeless.

Did you know that the stories preserved at the Law Reed Huss Farm reach all the way back to the American Revolution?
This fascinating document is an Application for Membership in the Sons of the American Revolution, completed by James Howard Johnson. Through careful genealogical research, Johnson traced his family line back to Peter Pool, a Revolutionary War soldier who served as a Private in the Sixteenth Virginia Regiment of the Continental Line under Capt. Thomas Triplett and Col. William Grayson. Documents like this are more than family records—they're windows into the past. This is a hand-powered washing machine with a wringer, a common household appliance before electric washing machines became widely available. Laundry day was no easy task. Clothes were washed in hot, soapy water inside the rotating drum, then carefully fed through the wringer to squeeze out excess water before being hung on a clothesline to dry. The wringer helped remove water more efficiently, but users had to be careful to keep their fingers clear of the rollers! For farm families, washing clothes was often an all-day chore that required heating water, scrubbing garments, operating the washer by hand, and hanging everything outside to dry. It was physically demanding work, but machines like this made the task much easier than washing entirely by hand.

🚗 We've Got Parking!🚜

Big changes don't always come with blacktop and painted lines!

We're excited to share that The Farm now has a dedicated gravel parking lot for our visitors. It may not be fancy, but it's a huge improvement from having no designated parking at all—and it will make visiting the Farm easier and safer for everyone.

This project is another step in making the Farm more welcoming and accessible while preserving its historic character. Every improvement, big or small, helps us continue sharing this special place with our community.

The next time you visit, be sure to check out our new parking area. We can't wait to welcome you!

If you missed our tours in April and June, don't worry! We will be offering guided tours of The Farm on Sunday, July 26th 1pm to 4pm. Tours leave every hour on the hour and are completely free but reservations are required as there are a limited number of spaces for each time slot.

Happy Independence Day!
As we celebrate the Fourth of July, we're reminded that the holiday has always been about more than fireworks and parades. It's a time to come together with family, friends, and neighbors to celebrate the freedoms we share and the generations who came before us.
