Yesterday was a special day at the Henry Law Farm as we gathered to dedicate the newest Ohio Historical Marker recognizing the history and significance of the Henry Law Farm Historic District. 🌾

For a place that has been part of Ohio’s agricultural story since 1846, seeing this marker officially dedicated was a meaningful moment for everyone who has worked to preserve and share the Farm’s history.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the dedication, shared in the celebration, and continues to support the preservation of this special place. We are proud to see Henry Law Farm’s story recognized and made more visible to the community and to future generations.

Here’s to preserving the past, telling its stories, and continuing to grow the Farm’s future. 💚

Join the Scio Branch Library for a special evening at the Henry Law Farm Historic District on Thursday, September 24!

Guests will enjoy a guided tour of this beautiful piece of local history, including the farmhouse, milk house, and tool house. The historic district includes 17 structures, with select buildings open for touring.

Before online banking, credit cards, and electronic payments, families managed their finances with handwritten checks like these. These checks from the Law family were issued through Dennison National Bank and offer a small but fascinating glimpse into the daily business of life on the farm. While the amounts and recipients may seem ordinary today, each check represents a purchase, payment, or transaction that helped keep the farm and household running. Artifacts like these remind us that history is found not only in major events, but also in the everyday records people leave behind. What stories could be hidden in a family’s old checkbook?

Knowledgeable guides will share stories about the site’s landscape and key structures, with time for questions and conversation along the way. This tour offers visitors a chance to experience the farm as a historic place and better understand its connection to Ohio’s agricultural and cultural heritage.

This week's mystery object is a hand drill. Before the widespread use of electric drills, tools like this were used to bore holes in wood and other materials for construction, repairs, and everyday projects around the farm. Hand-powered tools were an essential part of life, requiring skill, patience, and a bit of elbow grease to get the job done. Whether building, repairing, or crafting, farmers and tradespeople relied on tools like this long before modern power tools became available.
