The Law Reed Huss Farm Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit whose mission is to promote agricultural education and historic preservation in Ohio by restoring a 280 acre Henry Law Farm founded by Henry Law in 1846 in Harrison County.

In just two weeks, The Farm will open its doors for guided tours on June 27th.
Have you ever wondered what stories are hidden inside old photographs, family papers, and historic artifacts? Come explore the people, places, and memories that make The Farm such a special part of our community's history.

Tours are FREE and take approximately one hour. Available times include 10am, 11am, 2pm, and 3pm. Please email [email protected] to reserve your space.

In our collections is this remarkable document: Arthur Huss's Certificate of Citizenship, issued on September 14, 1903.
Born in Austria, Arthur completed the lengthy naturalization process required at the turn of the twentieth century, formally becoming a citizen of the United States in Philadelphia. At the time, applicants were required to demonstrate years of residency, provide witnesses to their character, and swear allegiance to their adopted country. More than a legal document, this certificate represents a life-changing decision and the beginning of a new chapter for the Huss family in America.

Though simple in appearance, tools like this represented important innovations in small-scale agriculture, helping farmers and gardeners do more work with greater precision.

This wooden farm implement has been part of our collection for years, but would you recognize it if you saw it sitting in a barn? Take a close look at the wooden frame, iron wheel, and handles. In 1913, Lena Law was awarded the “Degree of Flora” through the Ohio State Grange, part of the national Patrons of Husbandry organization. The Grange played a major role in rural communities, supporting agriculture, education, and civic engagement — and notably welcomed women as equal members at a time when many organizations did not. This beautifully illustrated certificate reflects both the artistry of the era and the important role women played in farm and community life.

This small piece of history dates back to roughly 1870–1921, when railroads, telegraph lines, and early telephone systems were expanding across the United States. It’s part of the hardware used with early glass and porcelain electrical insulators mounted on utility poles. These “caps” helped secure insulators in place on wooden crossarms—keeping communication lines stable, elevated, and protected from weather and vibration. Before modern infrastructure, pieces like this quietly supported the networks that connected towns, rail lines, and entire regions. ⚡ Materials like glass and metal were engineered for durability, not decoration—but today, they tell a powerful story about innovation in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the men and women who served our country with courage and sacrifice.

Today we remember Jay Law, a World War I veteran and former Commandant of VFW Ohio Post 1066. Like so many veterans of his generation, Jay continued serving his community long after returning home—supporting fellow veterans, fostering camaraderie, and helping strengthen the community around him.

Memorial Day is a time of reflection, gratitude, and remembrance. As we honor those who gave their lives in service to our nation, we also recognize the lasting impact veterans like Jay Law had on the communities they returned to and helped shape.
