“Acclimate” is part of my current show , exhibiting through October 2nd. Originally it came about merely because I liked how the aloe flowers could act as cool head feathers on this red-crowned parrot, a species that I hear and see in my neighborhood almost every single day. But as I worked on it it started to reveal more of me and has become a reflection on this past year.

As you know, I’m a dad now and the first few months were so hard. I was sleep deprived and physically drained for months, I felt like I was hardly staying afloat, drowning at times. But eventually things got easier while I also got used to it. And now I feel like I live in a new world, one that’s similar to before but also very different. And I get to show my little one the world! It’s a trip seeing him experience things for the first time. Things that are so commonplace to me are the most exciting thing to him.

“Acclimate” is a personal piece for me but one that I hope you can find yourself in as well. It’s about adjusting to a new normal and finding a new groove. I’m retrospect, the struggle made it all the more sweet.

Happy 81st Birthday to our beloved co-founder, Dale Chihuly 🎂🎉

As many of you know, we just celebrated 50 unforgettable years of Pilchuck during our Homecoming celebration, and none of it would’ve been possible without Dale. Dale, we are incredibly thankful for all your continued support and generous contributions to our community, and we were beyond overjoyed to welcome you and Leslie back to campus on Sunday for Homecoming. Wishing you the happiest of birthdays from the foothills of the Cascades!

Teddy Roosevelt wasn’t so keen on his son Ted’s Hyacinth macaw named Eli Yale “Eli is the most gorgeous macaw, with a bill that I think could bite through boiler plate, who crawls all over Ted, and whom I view with dark suspicion.”
