'Has the heat finally got to her, is that not the same Lapwing she posted a couple of days ago'? I hear you say! Well, yes and no, on both counts - it is the same Lapwing (ish) and the heat is to blame!
I looked at it again, and felt something wasn't right, but it looked just like the reference photo I was working from.
Then I realised - I always work from reference photos, and before I start, I do two extra copies. One in Black and White, to show up the light and dark areas better, and one with extra colour saturation, to highlight where all the colours need to go. Then I do a basic sketch and block-in colours, then switch to the original ref pic to complete the drawing........BUT, this heat has really flummoxed me, and I didn't swap ref pics back, so continued with the highly saturated picture.
So, why have I got a rainbow coloured Lapwing? Because of my own stupidity 🤣.
I have gone back in, and completed it, more realisticly coloured and shaded.
Can you see the difference?
A short masterclass in how NOT to draw a Lapwing 😀😀
