Boyne Valley Trails presents a Walking Weekend this coming June Bank Holiday weekend, from Thursday June 2nd right through until Monday June 6th , there is something her for everyone to come on out and enjoy the built and natural Heritage of Drogheda and the surrounding area of the Boyne Valley. Community Historian Brendan Matthews will present one of his renowned Walk n Talk Tours, Titled"Drogheda during the Irish Civil War of 1922", which will take place on Sunday June 5th beginning at 2.30pm outside the gates to the Drogheda Museum at Millmount. History Walk n Talk.
Community Historian Brendan Matthews will lead a Historical Walk n Talk on Wednesday evening next May 25th beginning at the Bottom of Mary St./Dublin Road junction in Drogheda at 7.30pm. The Walk n Talk will proceed along the Dublin Road where Brendan will speak on the construction of the Dublin Road in the later 18th century. It will then proceed to Blackbush Lane via Poor-House Lane, along the old Union Workhouse grounds with some intriguing tales being told and it will finish at the old Union Workhouse Burial Ground of Bully`s Acre opposite Calvary Cemetery. Note: There is no charge for this particular event however donations towards the further research and presentation of Community History will be warmly welcomed on the evening.

Walking Tour with Brendan Matthews. Photo depicts a view of the magnificent Boyne Railway Viaduct at Drogheda.
Community Historian, Brendan Matthews will present the first of the Summer Evening Historical Walk n Talks across the town of Drogheda. Titled `From the Railway to South Quay`, the Walk n Talk will take place on Wednesday evening, May 11th beginning at the Drogheda Train Station Car Park at 7.30pm where Brendan will speak about the importance & significance of the coming of the railway line to Drogheda. From there the Walk will go down the steps adjacent to the Railway Viaduct to the Marsh Road to the location of a forgotten medieval establishment. The Walk will then proceed to the area of Ship Street with its colourful history including the construction of St. James Ship Yard here. The Walk will then move to the Scotch Hall Lane area where Brendan will bring the evening to a close, elaborating on the rich & storied past of the South Quay. Note; there is no charge for this event; however donations towards the further Research & presentation of Community History will be gratefully received on the evening.
