With a seemingly ubiquitous need for social distancing, some business in NYC have taken to developing creative ways to help their customers regulate their distance.

These playful cartoon veggie markers can be found in the at , one of many restaurants that has had to reinvent the way they do business.

While these characters provide some levity, it remains surreal that such distance regulating measures have become one of many parts of daily life that six months ago would have seemed entirely out of place.

Since the project’s creation at the end of March, 2020, the Coronavirus Chronicle archive has received a steady number of diary submissions from teachers from around the world ( , , , , , just to name a few!).

These entries show how educators have grappled with their experiences teaching, working from home, and so much more.

Drawing on these archival submissions, Coronavirus Chronicles's own Sarah Yu just published a short article examining the challenges, conditions, and everyday experiences of these educators.

Several months ago, the Coronavirus Chronicles archive was created to preserve the everyday experiences of people around the world living with the coronavirus pandemic. In some societies, quarantine has become a feature of daily life, while in others, success in eliminating the virus’s threat has mitigated the need for such restrictions. For our team based on the East Coast of the U.S., stay-at-home orders are still in effect. Yet, a recent spate of extrajudicial killings of black Americans has brought scores of protesters out onto the streets.

Coronavirus Chronicles wishes to express solidarity with the protests against racism, police brutality, imperialism, and inequality. We believe that black lives matter. We recognize that structural racism and colonialism are still prevalent throughout the world, and that many of you, in your respective societies, are also faced with such ongoing challenges. We understand that protesting entails risking trauma to both body and mind. Protestors face arrest and state-sanctioned violence, but COVID-19 can also spread among the crowds. Many are struggling with the dilemma of risking their personal health to protest the longstanding ills of society.

We will continue collecting the stories of everyday experiences in this pandemic, but we are also expanding our scope to preserve the memory of the challenges that many have faced during these protests. We recognize the importance of preserving the diverse experiences of these doubly unprecedented times, of the intertwining of multiple historic crises. We ask everyone to consider adding to our archive with your diary entries, poetry, images, and videos. No matter your perspective, country of origin, or relationship to COVID-19, we want to hear from you.

Her phone’s quiet ding signaled an incoming text message. She picked up her phone and read the message, then gasped in disbelief. “One of our customers just left a check at the counter for $1,000, to be split between myself and three of my co-workers. He said that he wanted to help us out in cas...
