In 1898, 14 years before the sinking of the Titanic, an Author named Morgan Robertson wrote a book called Futility "The Wreck of The Titan", this was a book about a British Oceanliner that was sunk in April of 1912 because it struck an Iceberg in the North Atlantic.

That ship was named Titan. 😯 The size of the ships were close in measurement, and they were both considered the largest ship on the planet as well as unsinkable. Both ships were carrying around 3000 passengers. Also, the story from 1898 also included that the Titan didn't have enough lifeboats for all its passengers and that it was going at nearly the same speed as the Titanic when it struck the Iceberg.

Now, on top of this story, we have the incident with the OceanGate Submersible called the Titan that was traveling to see the wreckage of the Titanic. It is beyond crazy how many similarities are here with a novel that predates the sinking of the Titanic by nearly two decades. 😳

A fabulous creation of the Titanic, by Vasiliji Ristovic

08/06/2023

On this day 112 years ago, on 31 May 1911, RMS Titanic was launched at 12:15 p.m. in the presence of Lord Pirrie, J. Pierpont Morgan, J. Bruce Ismay and 100,000 onlookers. Twenty-two tons of soap and tallow were spread on the slipway to lubricate the ship's passage into the River Lagan. In keeping with the White Star Line's traditional policy, the ship was not formally named or christened with champagne. The ship was towed to a fitting-out berth where, over the course of the next year, her engines, funnels and superstructure were installed and her interior was fitted out.

Titanic Was Launched (May 31st 1911)

112 years ago today, the second ship of the Olympic Class, Titanic, was launched at Harland & Wolff Shipyard in Belfast.

We thought to share this very detailed coloured drawing of Titanic, which is her still in the gangway prior to launch as a crowd is seen gathering for the event!

The White Star liner, and sister ship of the recently sunk Titanic, S.S. Olympic is having its cargo unloaded at Southampton Docks in this photo. Olympic's voyage was cancelled after her 'black gang' (stokers) went out on strike and 285 crew deserted ship, refusing to work on a ship that did not carry enough lifeboats, April 24 1912.
