Unheld

N° 03 08 26
130 x 140 cm

I work in shifting layers. Acrylic paint, spray paint, charcoal, and oil pastels meet old papers that I tear, layer, and sometimes rework. Paint is applied, smudged, removed, or overlaid. Some traces remain visible, while others quickly vanish completely.

The large sheet was created from many individual paper fragments. I built it up, altered it, and repeatedly intervened in the painting process. In this way, controlled lines meet chance, coarse textures meet fine drawings, and open spaces meet areas of high density.

I control the process—but not the result.

Coming soon
I will make it available online tomorrow.

For me, "Unsaid" represents precisely that space in between. Something that exists but remains unnamed. A thought one carries around. Something one could have said—but ultimately didn't.

I didn't want to explain this feeling, but rather give it form. The rest can remain open.

There are things left unsaid. Not because there is nothing to say, but because words are too small, too final, or simply not the right ones.

For me, “Unsaid” represents precisely that space in between. Something that exists but remains unnamed. A thought one carries around. Something one could have said—but ultimately didn’t.

I didn’t want to explain this feeling, but rather give it form. The rest can remain open.

„Unsaid“ ist für mich genau dieser Zwischenraum. Etwas, das da ist, aber keinen Namen bekommt. Ein Gedanke, den man mit sich herumträgt. Etwas, das man hätte sagen können – und es dann doch gelassen hat.

Ich wollte dieses Gefühl nicht erklären, sondern ihm eine Form geben. Der Rest darf offenbleiben.

The effect turned out just as subtle and delightful as I had intended. I spent the whole day continuing to prepare the collage papers. I’m really looking forward to picking up where I left off tomorrow.

I really wanted to start working on my new painting today, but with the temperature in the studio exceeding 40°C, the paint dries so quickly that I stopped after applying just the first layer. Now I’m considering whether to continue with various shades of blue or with a pale pink. I don’t want that large, dark area to stay the way it is.

Two paintings. Two different states of mind.

ENOUGH and UNSCRIPT — two of my most recent works, now hanging together on a virtual studio wall.

I like seeing them side by side. They don’t belong to the same series, yet there is a quiet connection between them: both are about letting go of what no longer needs to be there.

ENOUGH came to a point where I simply knew: nothing more is needed.

UNSCRIPT is more open — a painting without a predetermined direction, allowing the next decision to emerge from what is already there.

Seeing them together in a space also changes the way I look at them. Would you hang them together — or separately?

Thank you to ArtmyWALL - Show art on walls for making it possible to explore my work in a virtual space. 🤍

UNSCRIPT

This work emerged without a fixed plan. Layer by layer, its direction evolved from what was already there. It was a process without a predetermined conclusion—open to change and to whatever revealed itself along the way.

ENOUGH

I kept working on this painting until I felt: that’s enough now. Not perfect, not finished in the classic sense—simply right, just as it is.
