I started a new painting today, and I’m curious myself to see how much of this blue will still be visible in the end. Those who have known me for a while know that I often struggle when it comes to the color blue. It isn’t one of my favorite colors, but I do like stepping out of my comfort zone every now and then. In moments like these, I can learn a lot about myself. 😉

I rarely work with a fixed subject. Instead, I am interested in the moment when something becomes visible without fully revealing itself. During the painting process, layers emerge, are covered over, revealed, and reconnected. In this way, the image evolves step by step into a place situated between memory, perception, and imagination.
In *Threshold*, warm, earthy areas meet cool turquoise lines. For me, this creates the sense of a threshold—a transition between the familiar and the unknown. The suggested form at the center of the image acts like an opening, yet without clearly defining where it leads. It is precisely this ambiguity that matters to me; it leaves room for the viewer’s own thoughts and experiences.
The restrained color palette reinforces the painting’s mood. The contrasts generate tension without becoming strident, drawing the eye to what is hinted at between the visible forms. My interest lies not in finding an answer, but in the possibility that something else might exist beyond what is immediately perceived. It is precisely this idea that defines the unique atmosphere of *Threshold*.

Trying to Catch the Wind

In this work, I explore the attempt to capture something fleeting—a moment, a memory, an inner impulse. I am particularly interested in the tensions between heaviness and lightness, and between controlled surface and an open, almost serendipitous process.

The earthy textures and golden inclusions evoke sandstone formations and exposed strata—like traces of time or movement that have slowly inscribed themselves onto the surfaces. Simultaneously, luminous areas open up, lending the image a sense of airiness and stillness.

I work with a deliberate restraint in both color and form. It is precisely through this reduction that, for me, depth, atmosphere, and a certain restlessness beneath the surface emerge. The many layers, fractures, and transitions are not merely elements of my technique, but integral to the story I wish to tell: the attempt to capture something that, in the very same moment, is already slipping away.

In diesem Werk beschäftige ich mich mit dem Versuch, etwas Flüchtiges festzuhalten – einen Moment, eine Erinnerung, eine innere Bewegung. Mich interessieren dabei besonders Spannungen zwischen Schwere und Leichtigkeit, zwischen kontrollierter Fläche und offenem, fast zufälligem Prozess.

Die erdigen Strukturen und goldenen Einschlüsse erinnern an Sandsteinformationen und freigelegte Schichten, wie Spuren von Zeit oder Bewegung, die sich langsam in Oberflächen eingeschrieben haben. Gleichzeitig öffnen sich helle Bereiche, die dem Bild Luft und Stille geben.

Ich arbeite bewusst reduziert in Farbe und Form. Gerade durch diese Zurücknahme entstehen für mich Tiefe, Atmosphäre und eine gewisse Unruhe unter der Oberfläche. Die vielen Schichten, Brüche und Übergänge sind dabei nicht nur Teil meiner Technik, sondern Teil dessen, was ich erzählen möchte: den Versuch, etwas festzuhalten, das sich im selben Moment schon wieder entzieht.
