Echo Mapping
Elaine Grainger + Moa Gustafsson Söndergaard
Residency: 24-30 March
Exhibition Launch: 28 March, 18:00 - 22:00
PINK is proud to launch Echo Mapping, the first in a series of international artist residencies, inviting artists to produce site-responsive work that reflects Stockport’s shifting landscape.
By welcoming artists from different countries and cultural contexts, these residencies offer fresh perspectives on familiar spaces—uncovering nuances often overlooked by those who experience them daily. Through observation, dialogue, and engagement with local materials and histories, these visiting artists bring new insights into Stockport’s evolving identity.
Echo Mapping brings together Elaine Grainger (Ireland) and Moa Gustafsson Söndergaard (Sweden) in a collaborative exploration of the body, architecture, and the impermanence of place. Emerging from a shared research process facilitated by curator Katy Morrison (PINK), the project interrogates Stockport’s industrial past and ongoing urban transformation—charting its textures, histories, and absences through movement, memory, and materiality. Using the gallery as both a site of encounter and a living research space the artists will engage in a week-long dynamic exchange, bridging their individual practices through sensory exploration and spatial inquiry.
Through sculpture, performance, and installation, Grainger and Söndergaard seek to explore the shifting relationship between the body, architecture, and place. Inviting audiences into an evolving dialogue, the exhibition challenges the boundaries between the individual and the collective, the material and the intangible, the real and the imagined.
