Good day fellow enthusiasts of the 11th Canadian Mounted Rifles. I set up this site in order to gather more information on this regiment. My Great-Uncle George Alfred Harwood joined this unit back in 1916 and went overseas to the UK in late 1916. This regiment was absorbed into the 3rd Division, 8th Brigade, 2nd CMR before they went to France. My Great-Uncle was KIA at Vimy Ridge on 9 Apr 1917.

Please provide your reasons for joining and share your thoughts, pictures and information that you might have.

Regards

Steve Harwood CD Major (Ret’d)

Troops Departing Union Station, Vancouver B.C. for Halifax N.S.

Photograph depicts soldiers aboard a Canadian Northern train at Union Station, Vancouver. In this photo, a woman has climbed up the side of the train to hug two soldiers goodbye. Children and other civilians watch the scene and on the far right, a woman appears to be in tears. Soldiers lean out the train windows to say goodbye to friends and family. (BC Archives)
