Modems…who remembers modems? Have any of you ever used an Apple dial-up modem? Apple sold their own dual-up modems from 1983 until 2009. The first Apple modem topped out 300 baud, and the last was 56 kilobaud.

Who can name all the Apple modems in this photo? Who can name all the Apple modems missing from this photo?

The Apple Macintosh Quadra 700 from 1991 was the most elegant of the beige Macintosh tower computers and today is one of the most desirable for collectors. It also featured prominently in the movie Jurassic Park…which is very cool!

In these photos we have a production Quadra 700 next to a prototype.

The Piltdown Man was a scientific hoax from the early 20th century that was also the code name for one of Apple’s first PowerPC computers: the Power Macintosh 6100. The first PPC Mac models were named after big frauds: Piltdown Man (PDM), Cold Fusion, and Carl Sagan?

The story behind the whole Carl Sagan drama is definitely worth looking up! The code name for the Power Macintosh 7100 was changed from Carl Sagan to BHA (Butt-Head Astronomer) to LAW (Lawyers Are Wimps). 😂🤷🏻‍♂️

🎶 It's the eye of the tiger
It's the thrill of the fight
Rising up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor
Stalks his prey in the night
And he's watching us all
With the eye of the tiger 🎶

You’ve got an iPhone Pro, AirPods Pro, MacBook Pro, but what was the first Apple “Pro” product? That would be the ProFile hard drive from 1981 that had a whopping 5MB capacity! And the second? The LaserWriter Pro printer from 1993. What’s your favorite  Pro product?

The Color StyleWriter 2200 was the second and last portable printer from Apple. Weighing just 1.4kg (3.1lbs) and available with an optional battery pack.

Launched in 1995, the $419 printer could print 5 pages per minute in black & white mode, but if you tried to print in color it took more than 3 minutes to print a single page.

The Apple Macintosh PowerBook 145B was a lower priced model released by Apple in 1993. It was powered by a 25 MHz Motorola 68030 processor and came with 4 MB of RAM. This particular unit is from Germany, where at the time local regulations required Apple to ship their laptops with a lighter color keyboard that didn’t match the rest of the computer.

The Apple printer and scanner product line spanned nearly three decades and was quite diverse. Product family naming was also more creative than its competitors of the period:

Silentype
Dot Matrix Printer
Daisy Wheel Printer
Color Plotter
Scribe
ImageWriter
LaserWriter
StyleWriter
Color Printer
Scanner
OneScanner

We have at least one model from each product family, but are still on the lookout for a few more!

Before the HomePod (2018), before the iPod Hi-Fi (2006), there was the Apple PowerCD (1993) with AppleDesign Powered Speakers II.

This bundle cost $578 ($1,185 in 2022 dollars) and could be used for playing audio CDs, photo CDs, and CD-ROMs via its SCSI interface. The AppleCD came with a docking station and could also run off batteries. It also came with a wireless remote control.

Boxes…anyone into boxes? What about old Apple product boxes? What if they still have the product inside them?

We’ve got a bunch of boxed vintage Apple products; but don’t worry, we have already opened each one and replaced any batteries or leaky capacitors and then packed them back up.

The first Mac mini (left) was unveiled by Steve Jobs in January 2005. It featured an internal hard drive and optical drive (DVD-RW). It was followed in 2009 by a dedicated server version (right) that ditched the optical drive and instead offered dual internal hard drives.

This time last year our biggest supporters came by for a visit and brought along a 2019 Mac Pro rack mount workstation. It was a treat to have such a rare machine to compare with Apple’s past rack mount computers & servers.

The first Apple products with the “SE” name were premium products with premium specs and pricing. They were well received by customers at their launch (1987 & 1989) and continue to be well regarded today by collectors.
