WHY we choose to be compassionate has a lot of impact on how compassion affects us.
⠀
Over the next few days we'll be sharing 3 questions about compassion that could spur some impactful discussions. We invite you to give them a try.
⠀
Today's question is -
⠀
What, if anything, do I get or hope to get out of acting compassionately? Does that depend on the situation?

Do you ever just stop and smell the roses? I know this isn't a rose... but, you know what I mean. ;)
⠀
This is the act of appreciation and recognizing the source of the goodness in our lives. To take time to recognize those daily moments that bring us joy and really *seeing* and *experiencing* what causes that emotion for us and how we can manifest that into our lives for a greater positive impact.
⠀
What stops you in your tracks?
⠀
Street art?
The smell of coffee in the morning?
A roadside scenic overlook?
The sound of music?

Yesterday we talked about journaling as one way to pause & reflect. But it may not be for everyone.
⠀
Pablo Picasso said, "Painting is just another way to keep a diary."
⠀
Finding alternative creative outlets, like painting for instance, can help you find space to pause & reflect as well. You don't need to be an artist or even good at it. Just pick up a brush, choose colors that you feel drawn to and openly go where the brush strokes take you.

Do you journal? How do you pause & reflect?
⠀
Our August guest blog post from our friend and talented wordsmith, Kenneth Woods – suggests journaling as one way to pause & reflect.
⠀
Here's a sneak peek from the blog - "Pause & Reflect: Finding Hope in an Overwhelming World"
⠀
|| "...the beautiful thing about journaling, besides having a safe non-judgmental place to express yourself, is that it makes you slow down and think. In order to fill up a journal, you have to write about what you experienced. In order to write about said experiences, you have to recall what you did. Today, we are so busy we can barely remember what we had for lunch. A whole week can pass and it will feel like it flew by without any memorable moments to speak of. That isn’t living, that’s just existing." ||

When's the last time you tried something new?
⠀
There is a feeling of accomplishment and delight when you try something new. When you feel tired of living, overwhelmed by every day’s chores, and confused about the next step, try something new. You can even do something old in a new way.
⠀
Just like this banana split!
⠀
I never thought I cared for them until I tried this one! Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised. I saw how joyful people were eating this beauty and I just had to experience it for myself and wow, I have a new found love for banana splits and making memories through new experiences.
⠀
Give it a try sometime. :)

Keeping you in the loop -

We are back, heading into the middle of August with some very good news. But before we get into all of that… How are you? How did July treat you? How have you been cultivating compassion for yourself or others? Don’t worry, this isn’t a test; it’s just something we are reflecting on. It’s ...

What may look like doodling on a chalkboard to some may be a hidden message to another. Every interaction with compassion builds that .

Connect with us on to learn more about our community minded pop-ups through our engaging series, "Culture Compass!"

Consider what guides you? The human experience is moved by many things and for many reasons.

Through a constant stream of ideas, actions, and exposures we form a sense of culture or way of living.

Our social and cultural norms lead us, and "Culture Compass" explores what a compassion-led life and organization could be like one step at a time.

It may sound too good to be true but compassion is actually possible to give and receive. When we are willing to exchange our culture of fear, hate, or doubt, for what we deem to be our north star, compassion that is, our lives take a radical shift in an upward direction.

Pause & Reflect: Finding Hope in an Overwhelming World -

Life has been feeling like a lot, hasn’t it? There’s so much going on in our cities, states, and countries. We are feeling the pain of countries on the other side of this planet we are all living on. It’s a lot, probably too much for anyone to take in. Perhaps humans weren’t designed to take...

Sometimes you just need to channel your inner child...
⠀
Dr Venetia Leonidaki says, “Connecting with your inner child can put you in touch with a wider range of emotions, boost your creativity, enhance your desire to have fun, and help you feel more light-hearted. It can also reduce feelings of emotional numbness and disconnection and make you more aware of suppressed negative emotions, which could have made you more prone to mental health difficulties. If there are any wounds from your childhood that need healing, reconnecting with your inner child could give you the opportunity to work through them. Finally, you could end up with a more complete sense of who you are by connecting different parts of yourself together.”
⠀
A couple of ways to tap into your inner-child:
⠀
1) Being creative - Creative tasks like anything from art, games, outdoor activities or singing karaoke can unlock our childlike qualities, including being spontaneous, playful, inventive, and having fun.
⠀
2) Spending quality time with children - whether they are your own children or not, it gives you a first-hand experience of a carefree but also highly emotional state of being.

Are you holding onto something that you need to let go of?
⠀
Holding on vs letting go according to life & relationship coach, Daria Kral:
⠀
Definition of “Hold On” by merriam-webster.com –
maintain a condition or position; to maintain a grasp on something; to await something (such as a telephone connection) desired or requested broadly; to maintain possession of or adherence to.
⠀
Definition of “Let Go” by merriam-webster.com –
to relax or release one’s hold; to abandon self-restraint; to dismiss from employment; to set free (from a state of being held in check).
⠀
Kral says:
Holding on to anything that is not serving us in any way is restricting our potential to unfold and ignite. We need to learn to accept that nothing lasts forever in the same way. To let go is a process, it can be painful and uncomfortable, but it is liberating and creates a sense of choice where we can see and decide for other opportunities and possibilities.
⠀
"Holding on is believing that there’s only a past; letting go is knowing that there’s a future." – Daphne Rose Kingma

Art and culture builds and binds community. Culture generates social capital and strengthens a community’s character.
⠀
Art brings people together physically — at galleries, museums, performance spaces
Art brings people together culturally — by telling a community’s shared story, to inspire pause & reflection, and form connections that transform differences.
⠀
With this in mind, we're so pleased to host a series of art and activities coming up in August that we hope will inspire and provide connection within our communities.

Happy National Self-Care Day 🧘🏽‍♂️
⠀
Speaking of... Some may wonder...
⠀
Is self-care selfish?
⠀
Self-care means improving yourself, and it does not have to be at the cost of others and their needs. Self-care is a means of restoring your own energy, which promotes healthy physical and emotional well-being as well as interacting with others.
