Belgium designer Emma Terweduwe builds upon her home nation’s rich lineage of textile manufacturing, specialising in jacquard weaving for contexts of both fashion and interior design.

In two new plaid blankets – woven in wool, mohair and cotton – Emma combines bold graphic forms with age-old artisanal craftsmanship. In two distinct colourways – this one in a blend of bright blue, green and beige hues – each piece’s two sides show different designs, allowing them to be redisplayed at their owners' discretion.

This plate duo is part of Ella Bulley’s ‘Ye O Niyenii’ collection which celebrates Ghanaian food culture. These works are specifically linked to the Ga tribe’s Homowo festival that commemorates the abundant harvest which signalled the end of a historic famine. Borrowing symbolism of colours from the tradition of Kente cloth: the blue signifies peace, love, togetherness, and the green symbolises the land, crops, harvest and spiritual growth.

Custom made for Metamorphoses, these unique editions are intended to be displayed on the wall. Order via www.metamorphosesobjects.com

Beautiful vase by Bloc Studios. Order via www.metamorphosesobjects.com

The ‘Eduard Vase’ in Black Marquina is part of the Affinità Elettive collection designed by Milano-based firm Studiopepe in collaboration with Bloc Studios. Each handcrafted vessel is unique due to the natural colour variations of the stone. The elegant, unexpected shapes of the ‘Eduard Vase’ are offset by the deep black hue of the marble, accentuating each curve and line.

Inspired by the beauty and richness of the local tradition of craftsmanship, aims to bring Sardinian traditions to a larger contemporary global design audience. In order to do so, the creative studio has created a diverse network of local artisans and established international designers who work together to create limited edition projects.

This vase is the result of one such collaboration by the Roman designer and Sardinian Master ceramicist, Walter Usai. The vase is a reinterpretation of the ornate nuptial vases traditionally gifted to young brides on the island. Originally simple vessels used to carry water from the fountain, the vases were included as part of a bride’s wedding dowry. Over time the tradition evolved and became less utilitarian and increasingly decorative. The vases became more ornate and flirtatious, embellished with delicate ceramic flowers, birds, and ribbons. This work is completely handmade and showcases a contemporary interpretation of Sardinia’s unique heritage.

Metamorphoses features 50 handpicked objects created in partnership with 20 renowned makers and designers from the Netherlands and beyond.

One such piece is the ‘Tunda’ vase by Pretziada, a creative practice based in Sardinia, that promotes the heritage of the island in collaboration with local artisans.

The terracotta vase is part of the ‘Sisters’ series by designer , which plays with the elaborate nuptial vases traditionally gifted to young brides in Sardinia. Inspired by the strong presence of flirtatious decoration in Sardinian ceramics, Valentina has created a duo - Marria (slender) and Tunda (shapely). The original shape of the Tunda vase is both exalted and transformed: paying homage to the tradition with a contemporary interpretation.

Horn Variations is a furniture series created by design studio Destroyers/Builders. Founded in 2014 by Dutch designer Linde Freya Tangelder.

Horn Variations is an innovative reinterpretation of a natural material with a long history in the decorative and fine arts. Inspiration for the work originated from fragments of horn collected by the designer during a trip to Brazil. Today, as hunting animals for their horns is now prohibited and this material becomes increasingly rare, Destroyers/Builders seeks to convey the beauty of this ancient medium and its connection to cultural heritage, while translating it into an ethically sourced material. Through the close study of these pieces of horn, the studio developed a new lacquering method to replicate the glossy marbled surface. In order to create the physical effects of horn, the designer applies many layers of paint by hand; using a combination of lacquer and acrylic paint to create the illusionary effect.

Horn Variations is a furniture series created by design studio Destroyers/Builders, founded in 2014 by Dutch designer Linde Freya Tangelder.

Like a number of pieces in Destroyers/Builders’ collections, the shapes in Horn Variations derive from studies of sturdy architectural columns. In their surfaces, though, the designer sought to pay homage to the rich variations of colour found in animal horn – without touching a material that has become a topical issue, despite featuring heavily in the history of furniture-making. In lacquered chipwood and acrylic paint applied in layers, the fake horn effect is achieved in a number of shades. For Metamorphoses, ‘Horn Variations I and II’ are available in white and dark taupe respectively.
