Coastal and tropical critters can often be found in my paintings - some art pieces have coins embedded in the scenes; can you find them?

Any WWII buffs out there? This is my latest painting depicting a pod of dolphins as they discover a US Navy dive bomber (Dauntless SBD3) settled on the sea floor - even the fish seem curious. This aircraft made a huge difference at the Battle of Midway; many ran out of fuel trying to get back to their carrier - maybe this is one of them. Acrylic 24X30.

Meant to share this earlier but have been busy getting ready for the Ocean Springs Spring Arts festival. My latest painting call "Under the Gumbo Limbo Tree"; it depicts my trusty guitar in a setting that is the stuff of my dreams.

Another fun deconstruction of one of my paintings. My painting called "Quest" depicts an Iguana lounging on an old rusted Conquistador helmet. Here are 3 pics of the painting in different stages of development. Once I painted a shiny, freshly minted helmet, I then had to age it by painting rust, holes and dirt to give the illusion of time taking its toll. It was hard to purposely destroy a perfectly good helmet.

Had a great time at ArtsGoggle this past weekend; there were a lot of happy people strolling along the mile of artist tents. I had never been to this part of Fort Worth before but it looked like an interesting place with lots of local eateries and breweries. Here is a pic of me and my booth ready for action. In the past, I posted pictures of happy customers with their newest painting but completely forgot to do that this time - oh well.

Hi everyone - Its been a while. I have been secretly toiling away on my most recent painting; this one is much larger than any I have painted before (30X40) and involves some new painting techniques. I will share more as it gets closer to completion.

I also wanted to you know that I will be exhibiting at the ArtsGoggle experience in Fort Worth on April 23rd. This event will have a mile of artists, crafts and food along with numerous bands; it should be a great time. Come stop by my booth if you make it out.

Hi everyone - Although I typically paint scenes and critters that are of a coastal/tropical nature, one stands apart - the hummingbird. I painted this image for my mother who turned 93 this year. She has always loved those magical creatures and it was my hope to brighten her day with a colorful hummingbird frozen in time at the moment of feeding. Here is a picture of my mother with her painting. I am hopeful others will enjoy it as well.

Howdy - As you may know, I especially like to depict scenes that hint at the presence of Humankind in nature (or vice versa) and how the indomitable spirit of nature always shines through. One of the hallmarks of my work is to embed Spanish Pieces of Eight somewhere in the scene. I do not place them in every painting but they can be found in most. It must come from my lifelong fascination with the Pirates of the Caribbean ride in Disneyland; the treasure scenes are my favorite. Here are some snips from various painting depicting the coins. Can you match them with the painting to which they belong?

Every once in a while I take a pic of my canvas as the artwork starts to take shape. Over time I end up with a dozen or so still shots of the painting. Sometimes I change things or decide to add or remove elements from the scene along the way. For the boat-on-the-beach painting, I stitched those individual pics together and produced this short animation. You can find this animation on my website as well but thought you might enjoy it here.

Howdy folks - I recently participated in a juried small works art show put on by the Artists Round Texas group; the art show attracted over 140 original pieces of art from Texas artists. The art is hanging in the Rowlett public library for public viewing and will be there til Dec 18th - so stop by if you live in the area. The small works in this art show could be no larger that 12x12 inches. I submitted three pieces; here are a couple of pics of one of them. The sides of the canvas were required to be painted if the art was not framed. The second picture shows a tiny ship on the bottom edge of the canvas headed for the island. It was a mind bender getting perspective correct on the edges.
