As part of the 2021 Culture Days Initiative the communities of Silton, Strasbourg and Nokomis are "Connecting Communities Through Culture" and hosting a series of free, participatory Barn Quilt Workshops.

Wondering if anyone has photos they want to share of their Barn Quilts up in place!
We would love to share them with the region and ideally create a map of land/street locations where folks could drive to see them!

One of the 2x2s, started on Saturday in Nokomis and now finished! It is this artist's first barn quilt ever and it is just beautiful! We are looking forward to seeing it hung.
Nokomis Communities in Bloom wishes to thank all the volunteers who participated in our event, as well as all those who came to get a kit. Have fun creating! And don't forget to post pics. Thank you as well to Vintage Sisters in Strasbourg, Kirk's Hardware in Nokomis and Last Mountain Co-op for donating paint towards this project.
Good turnout in Nokomis on a beautiful fall afternoon. It was great to have people come from neighbouring communities as well, including Govan. When it comes time to hang your finished product, please remember to use stainless steel or marine screws, due to the aluminum in the boards. And share pics here or on Nokomis Communities in Bloom - we are excited to see your art!
If you're driving in to Nokomis for the Barn Quilt Event, 1 to 3 pm, why not bring in your cans and bottles to donate to Nokomis Minor Sports? Bags can be placed on the east side of the Centennial Hall.
It's happening this afternoon in Nokomis! Plan to come and choose a take home kit; one per person please. All you'll need to provide to finish your project will be a pencil, a straightedge, and some painters tape.

Up next on the HYW20 tour… Bulyea!
The students at Bulyea school will be making around 30 blocks to share in the community! We also have a ‘big daddy’ going up on the elevator!

With fantastic fall weather, Silton staged the second of our three barn quilt events. Good turnout - 42 blocks went out this afternoon! It's gonna be so exciting to see the finished work hung in and around the area. Thank you to the great Silton Recreation volunteers for all the time put in preparing for and hosting this...

Great day for a fall drive!
The first of the Culture Days barn quilting open houses happened this afternoon at the Strasbourg and District Museum in Strasbourg, SK. Wonderful weather and lots of excitement in the air! Thank you to Strasbourg Recreation Board and all of the participants for making this a wonderful event. We are looking forward to seeing all of the finished paintings.
Join us in Silton for a ‘come & go … and grab a kit’ afternoon on October 2.
We will have artists demonstrating as well as Barn Quilt Blocks in a number of stages so you can see how it all works!
Stop in, pick a Quilt, grab some paint and supplies and it’s go time!

With special funding from SaskCulture the communities of Silton, Strasbourg and Nokomis are "Connecting Communities Through Culture."
Barn Quilts are large painted wooden replicas of quilt squares that are hung on barns and large outbuildings. Barn quilts draw attention to Saskatchewan’s both disappearing and vibrant rural landscapes. Quilting is an art. The quit itself evokes both physical and emotional warmth in the memories of quilts from the past and present.
Community Coordinators in Nokomis, Strasbourg and Silton will prepare quilt block kits on a variety of pre-finished boards. Participants will be able to paint the quilt block on site or take home to work on.
We hope to not only capture the beauty of the quilts on the trail, but also the stories to go along with the barns and buildings the quilt blocks will occupy. We want to link the communities through art, meeting and sharing with neighbours, visiting other communities, and reminiscing of past drives and events down Highway 20.
