Did you know Giulio Gavotti was an Italian pilot responsible for the first air-dropped bombs (four grenades) on November 1, 1911? In this piece, eighty-one bomb-like lathe turned cherry blocks, placed in nine groups of nine, stand as an ironic testament to the mass production of war munitions. Titled "Giulio Gavotti's Decision' this sculpture asks the audience to consider the implications of their choices.

'Decommissioned Chair' is conceptually related to Genzken’s cast forms and Matelli’s use of found objects, but different in the way that they construct sensual figures with iconic objects and abstract forms.

It's not just a pretty face (bust)! Jeff Muhs' compelling concrete bust of Marie Antoinette illustrates the highest degree of control of poured concrete. He used bread bags, women’s undergarments, t-shirts, sheets and a neck corset to get the desired attitude and posture and shapes of the hair and dress related to historical renderings of the last queen of France, who was unceremoniously beheaded during the French Revolution.

The spirit of a woman, long deceased, returns to this river, shaded by a palm glade, to bathe and bask in her youthful memory of the place. She is submerged in and distorted by the moving water. Refractions and reflections of both the real place and her reconstructed perception of it fracture and fragment the scene in opalescent geometry. She thinks she's here to stay but we see right through her.

Measuring 37" W x 60" H, this Oil on Linen work by Shelton Walsmith is available on Artsy and Artonique.

Featured work from our show: This oil on canvas work by artist Shelton Walsmith titled "Saint Someone Searching For A Signal" depicts a larger than life figure in a moment of self reflection. Making her a painting within a painting being contemplated by a mother and child allowed for a meta-fiction to occur deepening and doubling the sense of inwardness which lengthens the unpacking process. Saint Someone is a ghost of contemporary youth searching outside themselves with a tiny device to apprehend the vastness of the world it mediates.

Titled Childhood Memory #061287 (F*Ck Your Wall), this concrete sculpture by Dominic Sansone was made during his International Sculpture Center artist residency at Mana Contemporary in the winter of 2017/2018. This piece was the beginning of his recent exploration of walls in society.

Traditionally we have built them to keep people confined, such as prisons, now the political winds have shifted and we seek to build walls to keep people out. Sansone questions if we are just building a prison on a national scale.

Towering at almost 10feet tall, Dominic Sansone's" Invaders Must Die" is a bronze sculpture about the hordes of loyal and mindless drones, swallowing whole what they are told as reality and willfully participating in advancing their ideology through whatever means necessary. The goggles on each one serve to hide their identities and to conceal the direction of their gaze, hence the faces cannot pass judgement, nor can they be judged.

Artonique and Artsy present this week's featured artist Dominic Sansone.

Dominic is best known for his room-filling installations and repetitive cast objects that combine to create an industrial mass-produced sensibility to his sculpture. His current body of work is a critical response to the disproportionate role of the Military Industrial Complex in society.

Ultimately the goal is not to answer the questions or propose solutions for the viewer, but hopefully to cause them to consider, with more than a cursory glance, the reality we build for ourselves through the choices we make as individuals and how those choices impact our civilization.

Titled First Wave No.1, this Neo Expressionist work by David Darcy is a large 39" Diameter pigment under acrylic glass.

First Wave No.1 is the first work from the lockdown collection, where were created during the first lockdown in the UK. With the change in how many people in the EU and America "went to work," David was unable to go to the studio to create new works, but as with creativity, the desire to create does not end with the location.

David Darcy's artworks are pleasurable, contemplative expanses that draw the eye. They are intense abstractions of humanity marked by a balance of movement within the space. They encase equal parts sensation and inquiry.
