Minnesota Decoy Collectors Association

Minnesota Decoy Collectors Association Minnesota Decoy Collectors Association is the nations oldest formally organized decoy collectors association.

The first gathering was in 1963 and has flourished every year since, to become one of the nations largest Non Profit decoy shows in existence. Minnesota Decoy Collectors Association
This group was formed in the early 1960’s. We are concerned with collecting, preserving, and documenting the folk art of decoy carving and painting of years gone by. We also encourage contemporary carvers and artists o

f waterfowl, game birds and shorebirds. Decoys, although originally designed as a utilitarian object, have become an art object and a part of Americana. They are unique to America and are truly original American folk art. We wish to focus attention on the rich heritage of collectible decoys that have been made and used in America during the past century, to learn their inimitable characteristics, and to preserve the colorful stories of the people who have made decoys. The exchange of information is a by-product of collecting. We hold our annual antique decoy and collectibles show at the Minneapolis Airport Marriott, in Bloomington, the first weekend of February, each year.

Life gets busy.

There is always another auction to prepare for, another collection to catalog and another box to pack. Sometimes it’s good to stop, look back and acknowledge the people who helped us get here.

So today, we simply want to say thank you.

Thank you to the collectors, dealers, consignors, and friends who have shared their time and knowledge with us over the years.

Thank you for answering our questions, showing us your collections, studying decoys alongside us and pointing out the details we might otherwise have missed.

Grant grew up in the auction business as a second-generation auctioneer, and decoys have been our full-time focus since 2014. But no matter how long we do this, we know there will always be more to learn—and we are grateful for the people who continue to teach us.

We’re proud of what we’ve built together, grateful for the trust this community has placed in us and genuinely excited about what lies ahead.

Thanks and Happy Collecting,
Grant and Megan Cole

This was shared by a MDCA member:
This is a printing block that was given to Dr. Robert Leiferman, M.D. He was a well-known decoy collector from Minneapolis. This printing block was from the Evans Decoy Company of Ladysmith, Wisconsin. It was used as part of their business stationery. It was given as a gift to Dr. Leiferman by his friend, Illinois collector, Will Pennington. Dr. Leiferman used it on his stationery as pictured. The printing block shows a pair of Evans standard Blue winged teal. The letter shown explains it all.
