Thank you to everyone who came out to support the dedication of the mural Love Lives Here to the neighborhood of Wyoming. It was a pleasure to work with Wyoming Community in Action & Wyoming Art Show on this historic mural that has a home on the wall of Wyoming Community Coffee at 434 Springfield Pike. I am honored to be a part of this movement of love and camaraderie that is taking shape in this neighborhood and throughout Zone 15.
The theme for the Mural Project, "Love Lives Here," emerged from a powerful moment of solidarity following demonstrations by white nationalist groups near Lincoln Heights Elementary School. In response, residents and organizations throughout the 45215 corridor came together to show students, families, and neighbors that they were loved, valued, and supported.
Members of Wyoming Community in Action lined the school’s driveway with handmade signs offering messages of hope, encouragement, and unity. One sign simply read, “Love Lives Here.” That message resonated throughout the community, becoming a rallying cry for the growing partnership among the Zone 15 communities and ultimately became the theme for the mural project and other efforts.
My mother taught for the Wyoming School District for 28 years, educating students beginning in Kindergarten through Middle School, specializing in language arts. I have fond memories of hanging out with my mother this time of year, helping her prepare her classroom for the upcoming school year. My father also helped with installing some of the characters and learning props that decorated the classroom. Every mural I’ve completed over the years has a special meaning to me, but this one will always remind me of her and how much she valued the Wyoming community and the students she taught.
Thank you.
