Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens

Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens Historic family farm - house built in 1889 by Hulda's parents
A non-profit organization created to preserve the Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens and premises in Cowlitz County, Washington, as a unique historic, architectural and horicultural site and landscape for the literary, scientific, educational and cultural benefit of the public. The Farm house was built in 1889, later a potting shed was added behind it, also a carriage house which has been converted to a gift shop (only open once a year during Lilac Days) and many original plants still exist on the property. There is an Executive Board that runs the garden along with the help of approximately 200 members and volunteers that maintain all buildings and grounds all year round.

Mission: To preserve this historical site for educational history and heritage for the state of Washington.

Garden Time

Planted these varieties from Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens a couple of years ago. Now the house is filled with fragrance (and I do mean 'filled'). It is wonderful!!! Stop by the garden between now and Mother's day to pick up a plant or two for your garden.

Well we are open! Lilac's now are at their best for blooming - such beauty around here. Just heavenly to walk around and smell the gorgeous scents! Just a little information on their scents, they come in degrees - most Lilacs are rated in the following categories - Mild, High, Very High and Extreme. Late Blooming Lilacs use a different system - Sweet, Spicy, Strong and Fragrant. So any of you who have allergies - there may be a lovely "Mild" Lilac for you such as "Dappled Dawn". Personally I keep my cut lilacs on my deck as they set my allergies off. But walking around them in the garden I'm OK as I get enough air to offset their wonderful scent. In your home garden think about having "Early", "Mid" and "Late" bloomers to have beauty longer. We also carry the "Bloomerang" which has three or four blooming cycles during the spring and thru the summer. Have a wonderful day! Patti at the Garden

Just read book, “Where Lilacs Still Bloom” by J Kirkpatrick. Based on Hulda’s Life.
Fantastic - loved it!
It’s like, what I imagine, heaven to walk through the gardens, smelling the flowers and seeing the wide variety of lilac flowers.
1. I noticed the pretty blue bell-like bulb flowers all around the garden. Can you tell me what kind of bulb it is? 2. Will Josee Lilac goes on sale this week?
Are the lilacs in bloom yet?
Oh I would love to breathe this place in. Love the scent of lilacs & roses.
