Friends of the Palmetto Area Cultural Arts Center- Important Announcement! I am about to change the name of this page to reflect a change that has taken place in Williamston recently. The PACAC Board has recently decided to disband the organization. Although the organization as a 501c3 non- profit will no longer exist, I have been asked to continue sponsoring the events that I have been personally promoting over the last 5+ years, and I plan to do so, as long as there is interest and support in the community to do so. These events consist of : 1. Anderson District One Student Art Show at the Williamston Municipal Center, 2. Summer Art Camp at the Municipal Center, 3. Rotating exhibits of local artists' work, and 4. The West Allen Williams Heritage and Old Time Music Festival. I will operate as a liason between School District One and the Town of Williamston- a function similar to the one I was asked to fill when I first became associated with the PACAC in the beginning. I am still motivated to continue in this capacity, for I feel that it is a natural expression of my love for both our local school children and the community in which they live. I appreciate the support the school district and this community have always given me, and hope for your continued encouragement and participation! In the next day or two, expect a page name change to " Art Springs Forth- Art & Culture of Williamston, SC and School District One"

Summer Art Camp at the PACAC comes to a close for 2018 with the conclusion yesterday of session two! We learned a little history of American art by creating our own versions of the famous Grant Wood painting "American Gothic." We learned a little local history with texture rubbings. We utilized our historic Mineral Spring Park by building and racing sailboats in the creek. We created 3-d sculptures. And we created "Topsy-Turvies"- a favorite pastime of the 19th century. Our art camp is as unique as our historic community... and that's what our arts center is all about! Thank you, parents, for letting us borrow your children for a few hours this summer!

We have just completed Session One of Summer Art Camp 2018! We learned about a famous painting and painted our own version of it. We learned about the distinctive history of Williamston and created a texture drawing using leaves from the historic park. We built wooden boats and raced them in the " Spring Watta Regatta." We created original sculptures. And, we made "Topsy- Turvies" like children did during the 1800's. We like to make our camp as distinctive as our community and its history! If you missed this one, we have info here on our page for signing up for Second Session, July 23-27!!

Jimmy Cooley dropped by The Artory Saturday at the West Allen Williams Heritage and Old Time Music Festival. He brought with him a medicine bottle he found bobbing in the river below the Lee Steam Plant about 1990. Amazingly, it had survived "in the wild " for around 100 years, and was still unbroken! It has "Griffin Pharmacy, Williamston, SC" on it, and it once had a cork top. He is looking for more information on this pharmacy. This is one of the many "oh, wow!" moments we have at this festival! More photos coming soon! It was a great day!
