💗Grandparent's Day Special💗

Even through these unique times, Botanica is still working hard on our new project, the Koch Carousel Gardens. A lead gift was made from the Koch family through their company, Koch Industries and their foundation, the Koch Family Foundation, and many other donors have joined in by either making major donations for certain areas of the gardens or by purchasing a brick, bench or decorative light pole.

There are still several ways you can participate in donating to the Koch Carousel Gardens, including engraved bricks and pavers. This will be a memorial and tribute for people to celebrate their families or a loved one or a business to show their community support. Each paver and brick will be engraved with wording selected by the donor.

In honor of Grandparent's Day, we have a special offer going on now through this Sunday, September 13! Purchase a Brick and get 10 general admission passes to Botanica & 10 tokens to ride the Khicha Family Carousel!

For more opportunities to donate, contact Jamee Ross at [email protected] or call 316-264-0448 X.105.

🤍BLOOM ALERT🤍
White is the color focus of the week! Head to the Jayne Milburn Aquatic Collection and find the Neches River rose mallow ensconced at the entrance to the pond boardwalk. Next, stop by the Cissy Wise Wildflower Meadow and enjoy the perfusion of visually airy native gaura, almost each bloom weighed down by a pollinator. Finally, elegant Japanese anemone can be found in two locations, the Four Season Perennial Border and in the shade garden on the way to the Downing Children's Garden.

🌸BLOOM ALERT🌸
For this last week of August, the Desert Willow in the Xeriscape Demonstration Garden facing the pond has been blooming beautifully this whole summer. By this time of the year, the willow also has seedpods developing alongside its delicate pink flowers.

Along the way to the willow, stop and enjoy the planting of rigid goldenrod glowing in the sun. This plant can be found in several locations in the native areas of the gardens.

Finally, take a moment in the Butterfly Garden to appreciate the stream of white ornamental chives next to a large planting of goldenrod that is very close to blooming.

Together we are experiencing challenges of the pandemic crisis. Despite these difficulties, Botanica has not lost sight of its future. The development of the Koch Carousel Gardens continues to grow. The project would not be possible without the lead gift from the Koch family through their company, Koch Industries, their foundation, the Koch Family Foundation, and many other donors. New opportunities to purchase topiaries, bricks, benches, decorative luminaires, and other features will establish a naming legacy for families, businesses, and organizations in this beautiful garden.

Benches $5,000 - Only 8 benches left!!
There are benches to sell in the Koch Carousel Gardens. Each bench is a stainless steel 4-foot bench with a silver powder-coated finish. Each bench will have a 3 x 5 metal plaque that the donor may select the wording for.

Please contact Jamee Ross, Director of Development at [email protected] or 316.264.0448 ext. 105.

Explore, discover and connect to the natural world through nature journaling-FAMILY STYLE!

Slow down and observe nature, and feel yourself becoming calmer and more connected to the moment. Children and adults will create their own unique nature journal by using their imagination to view the world from a bee’s perspective, to dream up stories and to reflect on their own memories.

Believe you can’t draw or write? No worries! Nature journaling is accessible to anyone even if you have no experience with formal art or writing. You’ll learn simple exercises that will get your creative juices flowing. Adults and youth will be divided into separate groups for a portion of the experience.

You will receive a beautiful Botanica bag in which to keep your journaling supplies. The journey begins with nature, a pencil, a page and YOU! Please bring a journal or notebook and pencil with eraser to the first class. Enjoy!

We do ask all guests to practice social distancing and to follow our guidelines posted in the garden. We will be observing and journaling outdoors, so wear comfortable clothes and walking shoes. You may also want to bring water, sunscreen and bug spray. Dress for the weather. A refreshment will be provided.

Our Story

Botanica, The Wichita Gardens is open year-round and repeat visits offer new surprises as The Gardens change with the seasons. In spring, more than 50,000 tulip bulbs and 120,000 daffodil bulbs bloom along with an assortment of wildflowers and flowering shrubs. Later bloomers include azaleas, irises, roses, peonies, and other perennials. More than 20,000 annuals combine with beautiful perennial color in the summer along with spectacular prairie wildflowers. In autumn, you’ll find asters, liriope, sedum, and more than 5,500 chrysanthemums amongst the backdrop of fall color from trees and shrubs. In winter, The Gardens feature 12,000 pansies, red-twig dogwood, witch hazel, and berried hollies. As the gardens have grown, so have the educational opportunities. The diversity of the garden display areas provides a rich horticultural and visual learning environment for all visitors. This diversity allows for a consistent growth in the number and variety of youth and continuing education opportunities offered to the community. Botanica also takes pride in developing the community. In keeping with its mission to promote community development and provide cultural experiences in a pleasant garden setting, Botanica has a wide-array of special events throughout the year. Special events are designed to bring visitors to the Gardens for a variety of activities that involve the community in garden-centered events, that provide entertainment for members, and that encourage attendance. Attendance at these special events accounts for approximately one-fourth of the annual attendance at Botanica. Plans for continued cultivation include additional educational programming, enhanced special events, and plans for expansion of The Gardens, including consolidated administrative offices and new facilities with the opening of a new events center that opened in 2014, as well as the Chinese Garden of Friendship opened in Spring 2015. With ever-changing scenery, educational classes for young and old, and special events to entertain and amuse, we invite you to visit Botanica often and take advantage of all that the Gardens have to offer!

Saturday the 29th was special. These beautiful monarchs were visiting in the large gardens just when you walk in - no cage for these beauties.
My daughter found a Monarch Butterfly with a damaged wing. Do y'all offer some kind of rescue for these beautiful creatures?
A little different look. Infrared
I'm confused by your guidelines. It says masks are encouraged, and it also says the city requires it. So is it encouraged, or is it required? I'm not coming if masks are required. Is there a way to get a refund on our membership? We could not have picked a worse year to get a membership here. So disappointing...
We are planning a Celebration of Life for my mother in law Linda Keller on Sunday, June 14th at 1:00 PM at Botanica (701 N Amidon, Wichita, KS 67203). Please enter in the east gate near the Chinese gardens. In lieu of flowers, we ask those that are so inclined to make a donation in Lindas name to Botanica. Please feel free to spread the word and let anyone know who may want to join. I am working on making it so there is a virtual celebration on fb as well— for those that cannot come.
Has anyone heard when the next group of tulips will be ready to purchase?
Can members purchase tulip bulbs after they are taken out this year?
Thank you for the virtual tours. I miss going to the Botanica. I will come visit when it is safe again!
Botanica is waking up more each visit. So much in bloom right now!
