White House Inn Museum

White House Inn Museum Visit us to learn about the history of White House, TN. The museum resides in the replica house for which White House was named. Admission is free.

You'll find a variety of exhibits & information about the area from as early as 1798 to present. The White House Inn Museum has been championed by the City of White House's honorary Historian, Evelyn Guill, who has collected artifacts and documented events for decades. Joined by a host of volunteers, the White House Inn Museum opened in its permanent location, the replica of the original White Hou

se, in 2018. The museum has a collection dating back to the time this area was a fort in the late 1700s. This area served as a stagecoach stop between Louisville, KY and Nashville, TN. Travelers and stagecoach drivers would stop on their way at the White House. A landmark White House (most homes at the time were not painted) is how the city derived the name White House. The White House Inn Museum is a replica of the original White House Inn. The replica was built as a part of Tennessee Homecoming ’86 which was a yearlong initiative put forth by then Governor Lamar Alexander to have the communities to come together and provide their communities with an idea to serve and archive the community. The building was originally built to serve as the first city library and archives. With the growth of the city, a newly built library was opened in 2015 and the replica was remodeled and houses the City’s Museum, Visitor’s Center and Chamber of Commerce. Special tours are available by appointment and the museum often features temporary exhibits highlighting historic events.

August at the White House Inn Museum ended with a bang as we celebrated the release of The House Along the Road with a wonderful book signing by local author Wayne Martin!

We're pretty sure Wayne's hand was sore after signing so many books that evening! Thank you to everyone who came out to support him and the museum—it was a fantastic turnout.

Missed the event? The House Along the Road is available for purchase at the museum.

You'll also have another opportunity to meet Wayne at The Gathering at the White House Inn Museum on Saturday, September 19, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Stop by to say hello, have your book signed, and enjoy a day filled with living history demonstrations, crafts, music, and more.
