Some fun pics from the pumpkin walk last week! Feel free to share any of your pics! A HUGE thank you for everyone that showed up and helped and those that attended; we ran out of every possible craft item we had! A record success, thank you.

Ya’ll I blinked and now it’s the day before the Pumpkin Walk! Does everyone have their costumes ready? Remember, we are having a costume contest! We can’t wait to see the creativity!

As a reminder, parking and entrance will be through the park, not the front entrance of the museum grounds. Restrooms are available on the park grounds, but not at the museum itself. Payment for admission and pumpkins, as well as any additional donations to the museum, can be made via cash or card. We are set up to accept cards using Square, so your card information is safe!

We are just over 26 days away from our next Pumpkin Walk! Does everyone have their costume ideas yet? I was thinking I should make my family dress up as sausages this year, but I was told that my idea was the "wurst". Get it?! The Wurst?! Excuse me while I go giggle to myself in the corner! My dogs ARE Chiweenies, so I thought it was only fitting for us to give a shout-out to them in costume form.

We are still in great need of volunteers to set up and take down as well as the day of! We wouldn't be able to do this without the help of everyone in the community. Do you have kids that used to come but have now outgrown the Pumpkin Walk? Do you need any excuse possible to dress up for another halloween related activity? If so, we are looking for amazing people like you to help out!

The museum was lucky to have the help of some magnificent groups in the past with the set-up and take-down, but these programs are no longer funded and we have lost these groups of volunteers. The Pumpkin Walk is a perfect way to get in some service hours, all while not feeling like service at all! (I promise! We accept humans/monsters/aliens/princesses/cowboys of all ages. If you are interested in helping out, please contact Linda Dalley at 801-255-3116 and she will be happy to discuss what opportunities are available to help with!

Hey all! We are excited for the Pumpkin Walk this year. It will be the 14th one and 20 years for the museum!

We are very much in need of volunteers this year. We need help with setup/takedown and helpers for the day of. Anyone that helps with setup or the day of will receive free admission!

Without our wonderful volunteers the pumpkin walk won’t be possible; so please considering donating a few hours of your time, it’s an experience like none other! We are very short on volunteers this year, so please help us to make this possible!

If you would like more information on volunteering or would like to sign up, please contact Linda at 8012553116.

We are very excited about the Pumpkin Walk this year. We are looking for volunteers to help set up in the days before the event and with takedown after the event and the next day. If you are interested, or know a group looking for service hours, please contact Linda Fern Dalley directly!

We apologize in the delay for letting everyone know, but the board has made the decision this year to cancel the Pumpkin Walk.

Next year will be our 20th pumpkin walk and we have decided to put our focus on making it the absolute best, along with some other scheduled activities during the year. Keep your eye on this page for the fun activities we have planned in the upcoming year!

We will miss all your wonderful costumes and look forward to seeing them next year.

Wow, we could use a few of these at the museum, very pretty chicken/rooster.

For the past 18 years we have had help at the West Jordan Historical Museum from a state program which offered rehabilitation services for youth. Due to some legislative changes this program has temporarily been suspended. As a result we have just been informed that the 13th Annual Historic Pumpkin walk which is being held on Saturday. Oct 21st is going to be woefully short of volunteer help to set up the event.
On Saturday Oct 14 at 1 pm we are going to start the set up. We need people who can set up pop ups, tables and chairs and inflatables. We also need able bodied people who can help carry and set up the items and decorations needed in the craft and activity booths and to set up the interior of the museum house.

If you have an hour or two that you can give on Saturday it would be very much appreciated. We will be finishing the set up through out the following week. A lot of children (of all ages) look forward to the Historic Pumpkin walk each year and we have expanded with new crafts activities and learning experiences. Please come and help us have another successful and rewarding event. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Linda Dalley at 801-255-3116 or 801-403-9030.

Just wanted to update everyone on the vandalism that happened earlier this week. Due to the amazingness that is Social Media and sharing, a tip was turned in to the WJ police and the children involved have been identified and questioned and have confessed to the incident. We will not be making further comments about the matter, but wanted to let everyone know that we truly appreciate the concerned phone calls, emails and messages. Your continued support over the years is what makes trying times like this possible.

With that said, mark your calendars for October 17th; which will be the next Pumpkin Walk! We cannot wait to see you all there!

Now do your part and make sure you bring your friends and family next weekend to eat it all!

What are you planning on wearing for your costume? I am coming as Tinkerbell! Be sure to say hi to me at the admission table :)

Our 11th Annual Historic Pumpkin Walk is on Saturday, October 18th from 1-4pm. Admission is $3 per child and $2 per adult. We have a wonderful list of sponsors this year. Salt Lake County Zoo Arts & Parks (ZAP), Jordan Valley Hospital and Schmidt's Produce are our main sponsors and their support is truly appreciated! The Tiny Tim Foundation will be attending and sponsoring a fun train ride for all of the children in attendance, in addition they will be giving out some of their beautiful handmade wooden cars! We will be having all of our usual events which include High Uinta Pack Goats, blacksmithing, Dutch oven, face painting, apple bobbing, spooky cupcake walk, games activities and much more. Each family may take home a free pumpkin with paid admission. No pumpkins to be taken before 3pm please! Please come prepared to have a fun time and don't forget your costume!

If you are interested in volunteering we are still looking for help in set up, take down and running of the booths and games. If you are interested in helping please contact [email protected], Phone 801-2553116 or 801-403-9030

We are looking for either a family or a group that would be willing to bake and decorate 10 dozen cupcakes for the Cupcake Walk at the Pumpkin Walk. Free admission for those that take on this task.

We are also looking for volunteers to help set up some canopy's and inflatables the week before as well as helpers the day of during the Pumpkin Walk and to help clean up after. Volunteer at least 2 hours of your time and get free admission for yourself!

Please either comment or send a message if you are interested in helping!

We wanted to give a shout out to Salt Lake County Zoo, Arts and Parks, whom without their yearly support, there wouldn't be a Pumpkin Walk.

They have fun giveaways and info on their page, so go give them a visit and a 'like'!

A great big thank you to all of the wonderful volunteers who made the Pumpkin Walk possible. The weather was beautiful with a little bit of fall in the air. More than 22 dozen donuts were eaten off of a string and 4 cases of apples were captured in bobbing for apples! The spooky cupcake walk gave out more than 200 cupcakes in three hours. Mike Robertson and his lovely wife Darlynn Dutch ovened spooky eye meatballs, home made rolls and beef stew that made your mouth water. Train rides were provided by the generosity of the Tiny Tim Foundation members. A wonderful time was had by all. A very special thank you to the fabulous Newton and Simonsen families who stayed after for hour s until the last inflatable and tent was safely stored away for next year. We love you! Thanks again for all of the donations, dedication and hours that make this a wonderful annual family event. See you next year!

10/17/2013

We wanted to give a big THANK YOU to the candy fairy that dropped off several bags for really yummy candy for the Pumpkin Walk. We appreciate the support!

Hope to see you all on Saturday!

6 days to the pumpkin walk! Where has the time gone? We are very busy getting everything set up, we have some new decorations this year that are sure to please.

We hope to see everyone there!

10/08/2013

Wanted to give a big shout-out to Regan Barnes, our 100th 'Like'!

If you can believe it, we are only 11 days away from our next Pumpkin Walk!

We are in need of volunteers to help get the outside decorations set-up on Friday the 17th, from about 2pm until it's done. Please post on here or send a message if you are interested in helping. Every pair of hands is a HUGE help and will make this year a big success! For those that come help on Friday (but aren't 'working' the Pumpkin Walk itself), you will get a free admission (one per person, please) if you stay to help for 2 or more hours.

Thanks everyone!

An excerpt from the upcoming article in the West Jordan Journal about the Pumpkin Walk and Museum house/grounds!

"Mark your calendars for Saturday Oct 19th, 12 noon to 3 P.M. for the 10th Annual West Jordan Historical Museum’s Historic Pumpkin Walk and fundraiser. A fun filled day of not so spooky events, games, family fun and more. We are looking for interested volunteers to help run the different booths, event set up and tear down, clean-up etc. You can make a difference for a lot of children by helping us out with a few hours of your time. Local businesses, church or scout groups and other organizations are welcomed to come set up a booth, pass out candy or treats. Dress up the kids along with yourselves and enjoy some old fashion fun, eating donuts from a string, fishing for prizes or bobbing for apples. In honor of the 10th anniversary of the Historic Pumpkin Walk, we are featuring a spooky Cupcake Walk in the Historic Steadman Barn. Speaking of barns, Utah author Doug Mottonen will be at this year’s event to talk about his recently released book, If Barns Could Talk. The Historic Steadman Barn is one of the featured barns in the book. There will be books available for sale and autographed as well as ordering information. We are having a costume contest for prizes this year so be creative with your costumes. There will be three categories: Most Creative, Most Spooky and Best Overall. Judging and costume contest will take place at 2:00 P.M."

Things are coming together for this year's Pumpkin Walk! We have a firm commitment from several sponsors. Jordan Valley Hospital and the Salt Lake County Zoo Arts & Parks (ZAP) will be two of our major sponsors. They help with the popups, tables, materials and equipment that make the Pumpkin Walk a reality. Richard Schmidt has graciously committed to furnishing the pumpkins. These wonderful people have been with us since the beginning. Mike Robertson is our fabulous & tasty Dutch Oven Chef. The Tiny Tim Foundation will be providing the train and train rides. They are one of the highlights of the Pumpkin Walk for me! If you would like to volunteer or help with the set up or running or booths please let us know. We are looking forward to a wonderful day! The date is Saturday, October 20th from noon to 3pm. Better get going on starting those costumes!
