Meet Lillian Rogers Parks–the daughter of a White House maid named Maggie Rogers.

By the age of 12, Rogers Parks began going with her mother to the Executive Mansion to assist her, recalling that she “grew up in the White House.”

During Herbert Hoover’s presidency, she joined the staff as a maid and seamstress, a role she remained in until 1960.

Did you know that the Nixons were avid bowlers?

They even had a one lane bowling alley built underneath the White House North Portico driveway in a workspace in 1973 so they could bowl at home.

Calling all history buffs! Grab your team of 2-6 and join us for White House history trivia night at The People’s House: A White House Experience.

📍1700 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
⏰ 6:00 p.m.; trivia will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m.
🎟️ $20 per person- guests must register in advance; no walk-in guests will be permitted.
Any disruptive or unregistered guests will be asked to leave.
🍹Two drink tickets included with admission ticket. A valid ID is required for any adult beverage. Non-alcoholic options will be offered, as well as light snacks during game play.
🎁Prizes will be handed out for the teams who place 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

Questions will cover a variety of topics in three rounds of trivia featuring summer-themed White House history, presidents and first ladies, and popular culture. We can't wait to see you there! 🏖️

A pet goat at the White House?

Check out this picture of "His Whiskers," a goat gifted to Benjamin Harrison McKee (nicknamed “Baby McKee” by the press) by his grandfather, President Benjamin Harrison. Here “Baby McKee” is holding the reins of the cherished goat on the South Lawn of the White House.

Also pictured from left to right are his uncle, Russell Harrison, son of the president, Russell's daughter Marthena Harrison, the dog Jack, and sister Mary Lodge McKee.

Last week, everyone had a blast dressed up in their best 1970s inspired outfits while enjoying 70s snacks, creating flower bouquets, testing their trivia knowledge, and exploring our galleries after hours!

The first photograph was taken in May, 1966 during the Lyndon B. Johnson presidency and shows Chief Floral Designer, Elmer M. “Rusty” Young, working on a floral arrangement in the Green Room.
