Por-Bazhyn is a puzzling fortress located on a quaint island in Lake Tere-Khol, Tuva. It was first identified in 1891, but thorough excavations didn’t commence until the mid-20th century. The fortress features imposing rectangular walls, a complex internal structure akin to a mandala, and lacks any heating systems, indicating it was likely never inhabited. Radiocarbon dating suggests that construction began in the summer of 777 AD during the reign of a ruler who was advocating for religious changes.
