"The memorial consists of 19 statues of soldiers representing a squad on patrol, drawn from each branch of the Armed Forces.

Alongside the soldiers stands a wall with the names of those who served in Korea. The 19 figures create a reflection on the wall, symbolizing the 38th parallel, or the border between North and South Korea."

My dear father, Eugene Wurtz, served in the Navy aboard the USS Manchester during the Korean War. He was so moved by his first visit to the Korean War Memorial that he asked to go around twice. Thank you so much for this moving tribute to all Korean vets.
I am a Korean war veteran of the 24th Infantry Regiment Combat Team, Rifleman. 1950-1954; At age 17 I, being a very adventurous young man; convinced my single-mother of 7, that I could help her more if she would sign a consent for me to join the U. S. military I also assured her that while in the military I would continue my education. Shortly after basic training, I heard of the so call police-action taking place in Korea and like many other adventure seeking young soldiers, I too volunteered for duties there, not realizing the reality of a war. Long story shorten, after 9 months of combat service on the frontline, 2 purple hearts, and other combat related metals, I finish my 3 years enlistment, the last 2 ½ years of it was as a U. S. Paratrooper, station in Southern Japan, which included an extension of one year, I I would’ve reenlisted for another three year.. If assured I could’ve served them in Japan. I just wanted to let anyone know that might be interested that I have set up a "62d Engineer Topographic Company (Corps) - Korea" facebook site, posting pics of my Father, Captain Nathan C. Kelly, Commanding Officer 1950-1951. Please feel free to join that group and check it out. I am not sure there are many of the men still around from that time and the 62d, but if they would like to see the pics I posted...please visit my facebook site.
Please review and correct this sentence in this picture. Korean war has been suspended since 1953.
I hadn't realize this memorial would be so moving when I saw it. It's amazing.
