John Milner Associates Preservation (JMA Preservation) is one of the nation’s premier historic preservation firms and is dedicated to preserving and adapting historic buildings and sites. PRESERVATION is what we do. Having begun as a small Pennsylvania-based architectural firm in 1968, we are now the preservation division of MTFA Architecture in Arlington, Virginia. JMA Preservation’s in-house staff includes historic preservation architects, architectural historians, architectural conservators, and preservation specialists who all meet or exceed the historical preservation professional qualification standards of 36 CFR Part 61. We are constantly evaluating and incorporating state-of-the-art technologies and keeping abreast of new regulations and standards. JMA Preservation specializes in all aspects of the preservation of historic properties and sites. Projects have included restoration, renovation, rehabilitation, and adaptive reuse of historic properties; preparation of Historic Structure Reports, National Register nominations; preservation planning including district surveys and master plans for historic properties and campuses; feasibility studies for the reuse of historic buildings, preparation of tax credit applications, and work involving Section 106 compliance for work on properties owned by the Federal Government. As a firm that specializes in historic preservation, JMA Preservation is experienced in the development of Historic Structure Reports. In recent years we have completed over 40 Historic Structure Reports in addition to related services including HABS/HAER drawings, condition assessments and treatment plans, paint analysis, and mortar analysis. JMA Preservation’s experience with significant historic buildings is extensive; more than 125 of our projects are buildings and sites that are National Historic Landmarks or are on the National Register of Historic Places. These range from the U.S. Capitol to the Grand Canyon.
