They are also subjected to political thought reform. Established in 2008 by the Laogai Research Foundation (LRF), the museum has since relocated to the Dupont Circle area of Washington, DC. Harry Wu, LRF’s Executive Director, founded the Laogai Museum in order to preserve the memory of the Laogai’s victims as well as to raise awareness of the numerous ongoing abuses committed by the Chinese Communist regime against its own people.

Effective Sep 1, 2016, the Laogai Museum will be open 5 days a week (Sat-Wed) from 10am-6pm.
