"The Museum of the American Latino, if it's approved in the Senate, is projected to be completed in eight to 10 years."

A Humble and Unscripted Tribute to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

"The massive spontaneous outpouring was led by women with their girlfriends, their sisters, and with their boyfriends, husbands, brothers and fathers in tow – along with their very young children, often bringing flowers and signs to express their quiet reverence."

Up until the body of Justice Ginsburg arrived at the Court five days later, thousands and thousands of ordinary Americans came from all over the Washington metropolitan area – and from well beyond – to pay their respects.

Eisenhower memorial near National Mall to be dedicated after 21 years of infighting

"One big reason for the 21-year gestation period for the $150 million monument was a deep conceptual disagreement between the Eisenhower family and architect Frank Gehry, 91, known for such projects as the visually striking Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles."

It took less time for Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower to defeat Nazi Germany as supreme commander of the Allied armies in World War II than it did to design and construct the memorial to him that will be dedicated Thursday in Washington.

House Votes To Create Smithsonian American Latino Museum | DCist

"If the bill makes its way into law, the Smithsonian would then conduct an 18-month feasibility study and look for a place for the museum on the National Mall. The federal government would likely foot half the cost of the museum, while private supporters would raise the other half."

If the bill makes its way into law, the Smithsonian would start looking for a place for the museum on the National Mall.

Cherry Blossom Festival event cancellations mean less available funding for maintaining trees

"The cherry blossoms are expected to reach peak bloom Friday, but the area around the Tidal Basin on Tuesday resembled a “ghost town,” said Matthew Morrison, chief arborist for the Mall."

With most of the National Cherry Blossom Festival’s events postponed or cancelled due to the coronavirus, officials fear a lack of visitors — and their dollars — will mean less money for the fund that helps maintain the cherry trees, endangering their future.

Chair Judy Scott Feldman's presentation to Smithsonian Associates 11 March 2020, via C-SPAN3, was an excellent reflection on how public (and adjacent private) space in the Capital has been used historically and could be improved in future. Maybe there's a place for a representation of the attached work. Maybe I dozed past it, but to me, Mya Lin's 'Wall' is the Mall's most moving work.
A timely piece....
I remember during the Govt shutdown.... How Obama paid extraordinary expenses to Wall off this open area in the Mall and hired security guards to keep anyone from entering the Monument...... Totally disgusting...
