Ramsey's Mill Camp, May 1928. I had never heard of this before I bought the photograph, so I went to an expert; Carolyn Hannah with the Scott County Historical and Genealogical Society. Here's what she found out: " I looked at the 1930 census and, lo and behold, there were Ramsey's who managed and worked at a Lumber Mill / Sawmill. William Ramsey (b. 1881/MO) was a "Manager at a Lumber Mill" and his location was in Hickman Township (so he was in the 'city limits' you could say), and the location was Lower Winfield Road. That's the road at the first sharp corner at WHS that goes due west and comes out near Winfield Church. However, it had to be close enough to town that it remained in Hickman Township so maybe the town side of the Hon Bottom Road cutoff. If one drove out there, the terrain shown in the photo may indicate where it was. It's between two hills, not very far apart, because the photographer was up pretty high to get a downward shot of it.
William apparently had a son, Lee Ramsey, b. 1905) who was listed as a "laborer at sawmill". His address is Haw Creek Road and Haw Creek runs across Lower Winfield Rd. I didn't go any further on family history. So I'd say this is a true photograph of a Scott Co lumber mill.
