@mollyhanburger loves surfing and lives just south of us in Cape Hatteras. Her photo was the inspiration for the front side of this panel that will be made into a vinyl mast to hang on the beach road in @townofnagshead ! I loved the lighting on her blonde hair and her strong surfer leg muscles 💪🏻 I ended up changing her suit from white to a cadmium red light to be exact! Makes it pop off the green wave 🌊 🏄‍♀️

Finishing up these aluminum panels that will turn into vinyl masts for the @townofnagshead beach road. Can’t wait to see how @accessdesignobx transfers these!! This local surfer is @coryccartier , thanks for the great photo to use!! 🏄‍♂️

SURFERS! I need your help again! I’m painting a male and female surfer on an aluminum panel that will be photographed, enlarged then digitally printed into a vinyl, weather resistant mast that will hang on the beach road this summer. Several other local artists have contributed to this project and I’m so honored to create one to add to the row!! The panel is very narrow so I need a female and male figure that will fit vertically, highlighting darks and lights and preferably in a bright colored swimsuit instead of wetsuit. Adding a layer of oils! Then another…. I love how oil moves around like a wad of slick butter and takes a while to dry. The colors get very mixed with each other and sometimes that’s a problem…but most of the time it’s the perfect touch. 🎨

My grandmother who taught me to paint had a home in Abaco. She spent her winters painting there and I visited her countless times. The color of the water gets in your brain. When it’s grey and cold I like to just think on that color and know there’s a real place existing right with now with turquoise clear calm seas. 🏝️ 🐚 🇧🇸 🎨

I painted this series, THE QUARANTINED WOMEN in 2020 when the world felt Covid’s despair. I’d like to say things are better but if we’re honest, All Sons and Daughters said it best in one of their songs, “I am a sinner if it’s not one thing it’s another.” We live in brokenness. I’m grateful that art is just one of the many gifts God gives us to “make beautiful things out of dust”. This musical tradition started 7 years ago with Joe Hall, my cousin, Perrin’s husband. Perrin was born on Christmas Day and loved all things Christmas but she loved God even more. “Whether I live, and one day become cancer free, or I die, I know without a doubt that God is good, and that does not change based on my circumstances. For now, I can rest in the assurance that the Lord is looking out for me, and therefore I can simply strive to live life joyfully for every day that I am given.” - Perrin We miss you Perrin and honor the way you lived your life. And what an honor it has been to play music with friends each Christmas season. This year @jessicakellymclean joined me in our own rendition of @amygrantofficial ‘s “OH COME ALL YE FAITHFUL” with a twist 🎵 🪕 🎄Merry Merry Christmas🎄
