Joyce writes that “Wood is the medium that has always held my fascination…The woods I use come from my backyard and the world all over. Michele Ratté’s “Fragment Paintings” invite the viewer to look closer at details including texture, form, and media utilized within these organic shapes. Created with paint and mark making on wasp paper, Ratté writes that this series “evolved as organically as the original wasps’ paper…by floating the paintings, lightness and form permeate the work.” On view as a part of our Group Show through June 30th!

June is flying by already, and we are getting ready to install a new show in the next couple of weeks! Here’s a glimpse at our 42nd season schedule…Please browse our website the see the full lineup of participants artists. Come visit the current “Group Show” before it closes on Sunday, June 30th to enjoy the wonderful grouping of gallery artists. We’ll reopen the following week in July to celebrate our “Works on Paper” show, with the Open House & Artist Talks on Friday, July 5th from 2-5pm. Artist talks begin around 2:30pm. Finnish-born painter and printmaker Vaino Kola has a new exhibit on view at the Zillman Art Museum at the University of Maine in Bangor. Visit “Living Here Feels Like I am In My Homeland, Finland” through August 24th of this year to see his work in person. You can also find Vaino’s work here at Turtle Gallery! Deer Isle and the surrounding peninsula has offered visual inspiration within his work for several decades, containing detailed etchings and oil paintings which beautifully render the region.
