Two new Saginaw treasures!
It is rare that I get the opportunity to showcase two sides of my artistry in one night. My artistic ability as a painter, as well as a sculptor. This is really a very overwhelming and amazing highlight to my career as an artist!
Art has always been a powerful medium to capture the essence of a community, to reflect its history, its spirit, and its aspirations. Over the past year, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to delve deep into the life of Henry Marsh. It has been an inspirational journey, and I am truly honored to have created a legacy piece that celebrates such an influential figure. In creating the Henry Marsh Mural, we sought to honor a legacy of leadership, dedication, and community spirit. Henry Marsh, a man of vision and compassion, left an indelible mark on Saginaw. Through this mural, we celebrate not only his contributions but also the values he stood for – unity, progress, resilience, faith, family, and leadership.
The mural, vibrant and full of life, is a daily reminder of what we can achieve together. It serves as an inspiration for future generations to look up to the past with pride and to the future with hope. It is more than just an artwork; it is a beacon of our collective identity and a tribute to the people who have shaped our beloved city.
It has been an honor to get to know Henry this past year. I believe he would be proud.
Equally significant is the Spirit of Saginaw bronze sculpture. This piece commemorates the 2024 OHL Memorial Cup Championship, a momentous event that brings our community together in celebration of sport, teamwork, and excellence. The Spirit of Saginaw encapsulates the determination, strength, and unity that define us.
Creating this sculpture was a journey of capturing motion in stillness, of embedding the energy and passion of hockey into a timeless piece of art. It is a symbol of our city’s unwavering spirit and our commitment to celebrating our achievements.
I would like to thank some very special people who made these projects possible. Thank you to Annette Rummel and Ann Bruzewski, who I collaborated with on both projects. Your guidance and support were invaluable. A big shout-out to the entire Go Great Team – working with you all was an absolute pleasure.
For the Henry Marsh Mural, I must express my deepest gratitude to Billy Budd, who assisted me from start to finish. I can’t say enough about this guy – his dedication and talent were crucial to bringing the mural to completion. To know Billy is to Love Billy!
For the Spirit of Saginaw sculpture, my thanks go to Roger Smith and his team at Michigan Art Castings in Leslie, MI. Your expertise in the foundry process was indispensable. Mike Hall from Preferred Technologies in Waterford, MI, provided all the 3D imaging, solving countless problems along the way.
And once again, a special thanks to Billy Budd who also assisted me and dedicated himself to this project. It has been a pleasure working with you, my friend!
Both the Henry Marsh Mural and the Spirit of Saginaw sculpture are more than artistic expressions; they are symbols of our shared heritage and our dreams for the future. They remind us of where we come from and inspire us to strive for greatness in all our endeavors.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to these projects, from the artists to the community members who supported them. Your dedication and passion have brought these visions to life. Let us continue to celebrate our history, our achievements, and our community through the power of art.

In this limited availability workshop you learn the art of Raku. This is one of the only local opportunities for this type of art.

Raku is an ancient Japanese technique which has been rediscovered by modern potters who appreciate its unique beauty and metallic luster and color. The raku process involves reducing (starving the oxygen) the glazed raku pottery in combustible materials such as leaves, sawdust, newspaper, etc. When the pieces are taken out of the kiln, they are placed in galvanized trash containers with combustible material and covered. Once the pieces are cooled, they are removed from the containers, washed, and will reveal the rich warm effects of raku.

We are pleased to present a new addition to the Frankenmuth Fire Arts Festival for the iron portion of the event. Amanda Partridge Nordin is a Detroit based sculptor originally from Eastern North Carolina. She is a multi-media artist who learned the art of mold making and metal casting from her college professors in the late 90’s. She has traveled extensively to meet and work with cast iron artists from around the world, attending workshops and conferences. Most recently, she held space as resident artist for the 555Arts nonprofit in Detroit, helping create workshops in order to teach pattern and mold making techniques for casting. Amanda has permanent studio space with the Detroit Design Center Studio in southwest Detroit.
