Borsini-Burr Gallery grew from modest beginnings into two large art galleries, located side by side in Half Moon Bay, Ca, 27 miles south of San Francisco, on the beautiful San Mateo Coast. In 2019 we relocated our private Showroom to beautiful Paso Robles, which houses a beautiful collection of Original Paintings, Fine Art Editions and Sculptures by the most sought after Artists in the world. “After the Storm” by Michael Parkes

After the Storm was painted during a particularly difficult period in my life. I wanted the feeling of having survived the storm and watching the sun break through the clouds with the feeling of a new beginning. This painting seems particularly relevant today as everywhere one looks the storms are raging. We are all waiting for that time after the storms when Calm and Peace return.

"Tiger, Tiger" by Michael Parkes

The explanation of this image is found in the last two stanzas of the poem, The Tiger, By William Blake, the 18th century poet and mystic. In this wonderfully simple poem by Blake, he asks the ultimate question, ‘How could a God, that is all good, create its opposite? How could a God that made the lamb, make the tiger?’ When the stars threw down their spears, and watered heaven with their tears, Did He smile His work to see? Did He who made the lamb make thee? Tiger, tiger, burning bright In the forests of the night, What immortal hand or eye Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?’ – Michael Parkes

"Summer & Winter" by Michael Parkes

This painting is a play on coupling archetypes such as Black & White, Good & Evil, Yin & Yang, Masculine & Feminine, Sun & Shade, and Right & Wrong. An artist can only define light by the use of shadow. In a film, you only know who is the bad guy by having a good guy. Here you see the cold, masculine winter is forever connected to the warm feminine summer by chain and ribbon. As we humans cannot separate the brightness of our souls from the shadows of our lower nature, so summer and winter are forever connected.

What is the secret? The secret is that no two loves are alike. Everyone says, 'oh, they are in love' which sounds like everyone shares the same condition. But like fingerprints, each love is unique. Even the angel is blindfolded so she does not participate in the lovers' unique experience. This is a stone lithograph and actually, there are a few that are available!

"Dark Unicorn" by Michael Parkes

From all the ancient books, he was only mentioned once. When the sins and sorrows of mankind became so great all the unicorns were taken from the earth because their purity could not stand the descent into chaos. Only one remained. He believed if he stayed he could help humanity absorb the pain around them. His pure white color slowly turned to black as he absorbed the sorrows of mankind. Even a comforting angel could not convince him to leave. The Dark Unicorn remains.

Some believe that long ago devas shared in the making of this Creation. Could it be that this image depicts the making of the very first dragonfly? Is the snow leopard a creation of hers, a companion, or perhaps both? Did she strive for perfection as symbolized by the lotus she holds? What we see at a first glance is enough: a world of beauty and harmony.

“Angel” by Michael Parkes 3/4 Life Size 54”h x 18”w x 19”d

A note from Michael Parkes—The Little Angel was my first sculpture that I made in 1991. She was just 18″ tall. I wanted to give the feeling of her looking down from a great height. So I put her on a tall pedestal of marble. At best it was a difficult illusion to create in such a small piece. Now that we have the three quarter life size of her, the illusion is perfect. She can look down protectively on all of us.
