The exhibition at the Gallery at Liggett Studios that Opens this Second Friday (tomorrow) from 5-8pm is called “LORE: The OtherWorldly and the Familiar” and it contains many surprising new directions from Tulsa-based Artist, Nichole Montgomery. In her artist’s statement, Nichole says “LORE is my most personal and ambitious solo exhibition in over two decades of exhibiting. Featuring over 40 never-before-seen canvases ranging from 12 x 12 to 30 x 40 inches—each framed and ready to hang—the collection is a visceral exploration of mythology, survival, and the blurred lines between fantasy and memory. I hung Nichole Montgomery’s new work yesterday and was even more amazed at her talent for integrating her drawing skills with mixed media. “LORE: Otherworldly & the Familiar” Opens this Second Friday from 5-8pm at the Gallery at Liggett Studios. Be there! Here’s just one of her fabulous mixed-media works called “THE FORTUNETELLER” for which she says: “The crystal ball has served as a potent symbol of divination and insight, deeply entrenched in the practices of fortunetellers and mystics across various cultures. Its origins can be traced back to ancient civilizations, where scrying—gazing into reflective surfaces such as water or polished stones—was a revered method for seeking knowledge about the future. The crystal ball, often made of quartz or glass, became a favored tool among seers, believed to enhance intuitive abilities and facilitate communication with the spirit world. In these traditions, the swirling mists within the orb are interpreted as manifestations of collective consciousness, where the past, present, and potential futures intertwine. As fortunetellers wielded this enchanted sphere, they tapped into a broader cosmic wisdom, offering guidance that transcended mere fortune-telling, grounded in the belief that all existence is interconnected and shaped by unseen forces.”

Nichole hopes to integrate this practice into therapy for PTSD & other trauma based mental health issues, as it has profoundly benefited her personally. She believes in the importance of selflessness and recognizes the collective human experience of struggle. If grounding oneself through a non-addictive practice is possible, why not give it a try? Participants are encouraged to join her class to learn her approach and further explore additional Neurographic art techniques online to enhance their skills.
Participants only need to bring a pen; colored markers or pencils are optional. Nichole will provide dried watercolor on mixed media paper attached to a board, as well as a blank sheet after the first lesson.
