Over 100 years ago, 107 years to be exact, there was a record-breaking snowstorm that did a lot of damage in the Everett community and surrounding towns. Roofs in Everett caved in, and the dome of St. James cathedral in Seattle collapsed. Before January 31st the snowfall was fairly typical for winter in Western Washington.

Are they Naughty or Nice? Multiple volunteers brought in collections of nutcrackers,
and Ed Morrow carved and painted these life size nutcrackers. what are they?

In German folklore, nutcrackers were given to people as a symbol of luck and were said to protect the home because they were soldiers. During the 1900’s the nutcracker gained traction in the United States, and it started to become a symbol associated with Christmas.

Sliding into the past!

Forest Park here in Everett used to include a zoo, but this elephant, “Rosie,” was a popular attraction at the playground there in the 50s and 60s. Curator Rebecca Monaghan took a slide down memory lane at our recent neighborhood BBQ. The slide is part of our permanent collection.
