Through its collection and archives of more than 10,000 artifacts and oral histories, exhibitions, educational programs, and events, the Museum makes relevant connections to the Hellenic legacy for its audiences. We do this because we believe in the value of celebrating the threads that bind us together, across cultures, ideas, and miles. Founded in 1983, the Museum opened its landmark building in

Chicago’s historic Greektown in 2011. It seeks to share the richness of the Hellenic legacy in a way that is accessible and inspiring for people of all ages and backgrounds.

Known as chanoyu or chado in Japan, this tradition of sharing tea boasts a history spanning over 400 years. The Japanese Culture Center is honored to visit the National Hellenic Museum as a guest presenter for a special cultural demonstration.

Guests will have the unique opportunity to observe the intricate, choreographic steps of an authentic chanoyu ceremony up close, learn the philosophy behind the practice, and engage with the presenters during an interactive Q&A session.

Following the ceremony, sample matcha tea, Greek coffee, and traditional sweets while learning about the role that rituals, both formal ceremonies and everyday customs, play in preserving cultural identity and community.

Whether experienced through a ceremonial tea gathering or a daily cup of coffee shared with family and friends, rituals connect us to our histories and to one another.

💬 Museums in Conversation is a new initiative that brings the National Hellenic Museum together with cultural institutions across Chicago to share programs, stories, and perspectives.

We are thankful for the people at the partnering organizations who share our commitment to spark curiosity and dialogue and connect people across generations and cultures.

Each partnership opens doors to new perspectives, audiences, and opportunities to engage with collections, archives, and experiences that enrich our cultural landscape. With rotating partners and year-round programming, Museums in Conversation invites our communities to learn from each other.

During our period of collaboration, members of both institutions receive reciprocal admission and access to all partnered events.

What a truly spectacular and unforgettable day we shared out on the course! We are overflowing with gratitude for every single golfer, supporter, and friend who joined us for this year’s highly anticipated National Hellenic Museum Golf Outing.

Even with cloudy skies overhead, the beautiful rolling fairways of the Odyssey Golf Foundation provided the perfect backdrop for a day fueled by camaraderie, energy, and wonderful competition. Best of all, every swing taken and every laugh shared directly supports the National Hellenic Museum’s vital mission to share the rich tapestry of Greek history, art, and culture, while proudly keeping the Greek American story alive for generations to come.

Congratulations to all of our winners!

More than 200 people joined us at the National Hellenic Museum yesterday evening to learn more about the opportunities to obtain Greek citizenship open to those of Greek descent. A presentation from Consul Georgia Tasiopoulou was followed by the opportunity for guests to have one-on-one consultations with consulate staff.

We are grateful to our partners—the ENOSIS Federation of Illinois, Hellenic Professional Society of Illinois, and, of course, the Consulate General of Greece in Chicago—for helping make this program possible.

The evening also provided an opportunity to recognize Consul General Emmanuel Koubarakis and Consul Georgia Tasiopoulou as they conclude their service in Chicago. Over the past five years, they have been extraordinary partners to the Museum. Together, we presented more than 25 programs spanning history, literature, culture, science, and music, expanding our reach and strengthening connections across communities.

Thank you to everyone who attended and participated in the discussion. We look forward to welcoming you back soon for future exhibitions, programs, and conversations.

Note: This presentation was recorded, we will share an update when it is uploaded to YouTube.
