These pastels have the same format as all my pastels: 20x30 BFK Reeves printmaking paper witha deckled edge. The images are about 15x16" with some larger. The edge of the image is irregular on purpose to give a more "organic" look rather than a straight edge. I have done some printmaking early in my career and have always liked the "embossed edge" from the imprint of the metal plate. Even these are not prints I liked to lean on the look of a printed image. (does that make sense?) these pastels here are some of my favorites that I live with in my house. They are framed to show the complete size of the paper - the large white arouynd the image gives a crispness to the work I like.

more pastels - when I browse through my flatfile portfolio It feels like a journey through the past, I remember when and where I was in body and mind with each piece, because each piece is a journey of the soul at that specific moment in time,the process of drawing or painting is a search, a longing for something that is not of this reality, something that wants to show itself , manifest on paper or canvas, my hand is only a tool when my heart is open to the unknown.

pastels from my flatfile - done some years ago but they move me

going into my flatfile and looking at work done 30 years ago... my connection to nature, concerns and thoughts then manifested in a very different way as you can see. Thinking about the landscape and gardens from different perspectives. The garden imagery lead me to my MFA Thesis "Hours in the Garden" . the cycles in nature and life. I still love these pastel paintings on paper, the sensibility of the line, subtle shifts in color and in some images mythology and some very personal imagery found its way.
