I am offering a ritual vessel from Nepal with a Nandi head that dates to the 18th century. I love the character and patina of this charming rendition of Nandi; the sacred bull calf, protector and vehicle (vahana) of the Hindu god Shiva.

This vessel was used for ritual libation of the stone lingam form.

Horn with bronze, with traces of totally applied pigment.
15” from head to tail, 5” in depth

I felt so fortunate to be able to buy this necklace of ‘Quiatonis’ from the town of San Pedro Quiatoni in the state of Oaxaca. Made in Venice, these delicate pendants are found only in the area surrounding this town. A friend with roots in Oaxaca thought that a necklace of mostly clear pendants like this one was used specifically for wedding ceremony. I’d love to know more about these ornaments. Please share your insights! Also, I just finished reading The Glass Maker by Tracy Chevalier. I recommend this wonderful novel to anyone that likes historical fiction but particularly friends that share my love for the glass beads of Venice and Murano! Circa 19th century. Length of pendants, 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 cm.
Available.
