The Valley Spring Beverage Company was based in Phoenix from around 1949 to 1970, with large popularity in the 1960s. The company was founded by Barney Rozefsky, who came to Phoenix from the East Coast. Rozefsky was Jewish and the company was often advertised in the Phoenix Jewish News with Yiddish taglines. The large glass bottles prominently featured a cowboy-inspired label, and boasted over 24 different flavors that could be enjoyed solo or as a sparkling mixer.

The Autumn issue of the Journal of Arizona History is now available on Project MUSE: https://muse.jhu.edu/issue/51672. Print copies will be mailed to our members soon. Recently, some historians have begun comparing the histories of the South and West. The JAH staff wondered, what can we learn by comparing the history of Arizona to a state in the South? So, we partnered with our colleagues at the Kentucky Historical Society to produce joint special issues of our respective journals. Together we selected 11 topics to compare. Five of those topics appear in the Journal of Arizona History and the other 6 appear in the Autumn 2023 Register of the Kentucky Historical Society. All told, we worked with 29 historians around the country to help us compare Arizona’s history to Kentucky’s. After working on this project for over four years, we are thrilled to share the results!

Sandra Day O’Connor was an attorney, politician, and the first woman to sit on the U.S. Supreme Court. Among other accolades, she was honored as an Arizona Historymaker by the Historical League in 1992. Sandra Day O'Connor accomplished much throughout her life and left an incredible legacy in Arizona and U.S. history. AHS is saddened to hear of her passing and would like to share a couple of photos from our collection in her honor.

Happy Black Friday! For this week's AHS Collections Highlight we've decided to feature a toy that we are sure many parents remember rushing to the store to get for their kids. This original 1963 Easy Bake Oven used two incandescent light bulbs to bake a range of mini desserts including cakes, cookies, and brownies. The Easy Bake Oven quickly became a household name and in 2006 was inducted into the Toy Hall of Fame. Did any of you have this original model oven? Comment below!
